New disc calipers and pads won't go on rotor

Replacing my calipers and can't get them to slide over rotor. I compressed the piston as far as it will go but still won't slide over rotor. Checked calipers and pads and they're identical to the new ones. Notice a thin steel "shim" on the back of each pad, even tried to put pads on without them. I used a c clamp and an old pad to compress the piston, looks bottomed out. Any ideas?

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: New disc calipers and pads won't go on rotor

just had to!!!!! we have all made dumb mistakes like that, I am working on my sm465 transmission now and would have it back together but I pressed the third gear bushing on before putting some of the other gears and washer on first, dumb move, had to break it to get it back off and had to order a new one, should be in tomorrow,,,,,,

We all have been there done that! If you can't laugh at yourself you have no business laughing at others!

Re: New disc calipers and pads won't go on rotor

I just came across the same thing.

New calipers, hoses and pads for the front of my 71.

Drivers side went together fine.
On to passenger side and i couldn't fit the loaded caliper over the rotor.
Turns out this one caliper is about 1/4" narrower and don't fit.
Now I gotta reorder another.

I did that once. I was taking my car in somewhere, got the call a spot was free, had my brakes apart to measure the axle flange, and "threw everything back together" without even a trouble-light. Big mistake.

Didn't make a horrible sound, didn't really drive much different (it was just a couple of miles) but MAN did I feel like an idiot when they saw it!

Then I came on here and told everyone just now :-P It happens...
