Photos of Trailing arm showing swivel bushing installed. Using them for a little more control of rear steer, along with freeing rear suspension travel.

Les,
Thank you!!!
Your truck seems to be very similar in condition (in terms of rust) to what mine was in the beginning of the build. Consider yourself VERY lucky! Most everyone here has to work a lot harder to overcome those issues than us......But I just had a hell of a lot more dents to fix from the looks of things...LOL!

Re: C10 Short Bed Fleetside V8 Automatic

Modges,
Our other 64' K10 was pretty much rust free, from NM High Country, but also had a lot of bumps, dents, and holes drilled. The frame is pretty much untouched, only a couple of welds were removed on that truck.

This truck is clean, except for one hole cut in cab floor. Even the brake line fittings came apart easy. This frame is nice.

Les

Re: C10 Short Bed Fleetside V8 Automatic

A couple more of frame/suspension going together.

Not sure why the photos are rotated ??? Will try to fix. Sometimes going to edit function and rotating originals 360 before loading helps??

Re: C10 Short Bed Fleetside V8 Automatic

John,
Long delay in answering your question, the rear trailing arm front swivel bushing was purchased from Hotchkis. Was looking for a conical bushing, an found this one. Liked them in other applications, especially on ramps to interstate highways, where you can get it on for short distance.

Hoping to get back on this project soon. Have made the big mistake on starting on a third truck.

Less,

Where are you having your parts dipped. I may need to tank a few things there myself.

Thanks,

Re: C10 Short Bed Fleetside V8 Automatic

Dwane,

Yes it is third truck under restoration/or something ( not getting them done, does not qualify as restoration). It is the 1964 C20, COPO 327, picking up the cab and other parts from being dipped this week.

Re: C10 Short Bed Fleetside V8 Automatic

Kimble,
Yes, at times it seems like too many. However, opportunity to purchase nice or unique trucks is fun for me at my old age.

Getting ready to install engine and transmission soon. For now useing an engine all ready built out of another truck, just changed out the cam. Dynoed engine with new mild cam. This cam brought rpms for 400 ft-lbs of torque, down about 1,000 RPMs. The Max HP for this cam is down about 30hp from previous, along 600 RPMs decrease for max hp. Max HP 370 is at 5,000 RPMs Significant decrease in overlap from previous cams 52 degrees.

Eventually plan to put stock 327 engine back in.

Re: C10 Short Bed Fleetside V8 Automatic

Photo of engine getting set-up on dyno.
Got the photo posting sideways bug again.

The valve covers are the original GM issued ones. You can tell by the Bow-Tie image on them.
Engine will also have stock pullies for the water pump, PS, and Air Condition belts.

Re: C10 Short Bed Fleetside V8 Automatic

283/327 motor mount left side with power steering

Photos below of the new motor mount being used (old style) from Pioneer, along with additional photos of correct power steering bracket, and how it fits on motor mount. The last photo shows screw driver tip where the new motor mount needs to be modified a little to give more clearance for bracket. The motor mount on bottom of page is an original one. Originally learned this from Mike.

Good looking engine Les

370HP and 400TQ is respectable and should make for a fun driver.

Re: C10 Short Bed Fleetside V8 Automatic

John,
Thanks for complement, yes, what it to be a fun driver with power down low in the RPMs.
Trans will be a 200-4R built, with a stock Chevy torque from a Corrvette. It will be a close bolt in for the current turbo 400. Minor lower cooling line bend and new drive shaft needed.

Re: C10 Short Bed Fleetside V8 Automatic

Pdxhall,
Thank you for the complement on progress.

Kimble,
Agree they are nice as a mechanical overdrive transmission. Have two, both are 86-87 from performance applications and upgraded significantly. They will make a really nice driver.
Are you getting a lot of snow?
