1967 GMC camper cruiser

does anyone have any info on the 67 gmc camper cruiser trucks? anyone have a number on how many were built? i bought a 67 gmc and it has weird holes drilled in the front of the front fenders and as i dug through some boxes of parts that came with the truck i found one camper cruiser emblem that fit exactly in the holes at the front of the fenders!! the downside is there was only one camper cruiser nameplate!! any info would be great!!!!!

Re: 1967 GMC camper cruiser

Camper Cruiser was the camper package in '67-only. Not sure just how rare they are,but it was an option that narrows down the number produced, just as a Chevy Custom Camper would. But,of course, there were 5x as many Chevys built as Chevys,so any like model of GMC is more rare than same Chevy. Those emblems are hard to find,as much from people ditching them when repainting as for ever being rare.

Re: 1967 GMC camper cruiser

Does anyone know if the 1967 gmc camper cruiser trucks were only 3/4 ton models or could you get a camper cruiser in a 1/2 ton model?

I think they may have records in Canada and that is one of the locations he lists.... I guess it depends on which side of the border it came from.

No 1500s, only 2500s and 3500s

Re: 1967 GMC camper cruiser

I have record showing in 1967 they did produce gmc camper cruiser trucks in 1/2 ton not only 3/4 ton with 327 engines 3 speed auto in Canada. I can’t speak for USA. The 1/2 ton camper cruisers were only produced for customers who pre ordered there trucks options from what I gather. These trucks usually had an FTO # on the glove box options sheet. If anyone else has more info on these 67 camper cruisers in 1/2 ton I would love to hear more!!

Re: 1967 GMC camper cruiser

Makes sense, but that's the first I've heard of it. I know the Custom Camper option was available on 1/2t trucks through '69.

Records were kept on models, but not options.

Post some pics man!

I assume it is an Oshawa truck, have you sent away for the build sheet? You would have access to some info that the rest of us would love to see.

American built '67 GMC's only offered the camper cruiser in 3/4 and 1 ton. Canadian GMC's are basically Chevy's, and Chevy did offer the Custom Camper in the 1/2 ton series, so it would make sense the Canadian GMC camper cruiser was available in the 1/2 ton series also.

Re: 1967 GMC camper cruiser

I bought a '67 GMC fender with the extremely rare (or hard to find) Custom script emblem. It was only one and my '67 Super Custom project gets the shark gills like Mel showed. So I gave it to TooMuchStuff for his collection. I have a pair of these Camper Cruiser emblems but I'll never let them go

Re: 1967 GMC camper cruiser

The 'Camper Cruiser' and 'Custom' emblems are rare, but a few late '67 trucks with the 351E V-6 also had a 'V6 351 Magnum Power' emblem above the 'Camper Cruiser' emblem. That one is extremely rare, I have only seen a couple of them.

You can contact Frank Agueci at frank_agueci@outlook.com, and here is their website.

https://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/

Below is one of the build sheets that I have, I get them for all of my trucks. It is not a free service but it's not that expensive, either. For a rare model like yours the results would be very illuminating.

It is a rare benefit of the Canadian built trucks, might as well take advantage of it.

I agree, rare, rare, rare. A visual. Another note, the V6 had a reputation as a gas hog, however after investigation, the reason is GM did not have a suitable ratio available for high torque V6 3/4 tons. 1/2 tons with a 3.07 or 3.54 did fine, 3/4 tons with a 305 or 351 with 4.56's are the real culprit. It wasn't till '68 till the 3.54 ratio became available in 3/4 tons, but too late to save the reputation. A 3.73 for 3/4 tons would helped also improve gas milage for these high torque at lower rpm engines.

Re: 1967 GMC camper cruiser

What I always heard was not so much that the GMC V6 guzzled gas, but that they didn't save gas over the V8s. That buying one to save gas was pointless. I never thought that was the point. Their purpose was to produce superior torque. It probably would have helped mileage if they ran a Quadrajet. You can get better mileage out of a SBC with a Q-jet over a 2bbl. Maybe the focus on secondaries was more about higher RPM performance, but running down lower on primaries sips the fuel compared to a 2bbl. I think that a V6 would be content running on Q-Jet primaries. Could be wrong. Certainly taller gears would help the factory set-up

Got the build sheet in my folder of goodies from 2004. Make note of how it’s a 1/2 ton.

Very true, I can say my truck is geared too short with 4.10's. A possible project this summer will be to replace with 3.54's. Interesting the 3.54:1 Dana 60 was finally made an option in '68, but only for 2500's with the 351E V-6.
