Krylon over EDP coating, ready to paint?

I bought a left and right rear view mirror from classic parts. Very nice but it has , I'm guessing some sort of EDP coating on them. elsewhere in thier catolog its claimed that the EDP coating is ready to paint.

I painted right over the edp coating without any prep and the paint, Krylon white, chips off with almost no effort.

what am I doing wrong?

should have at least hit it with scotch brite , also krylon is not very durable anyways, but its the easiest, sand it off, or use thinner, then next time just lightly mist the paint on, then finishing it up with a couple of coats, not to heavy each time till its covered, but the best paint would be a two part paint like epoxy something that has hardener added to it, something with hardener withstands the bugs better,

Worth more than 2 cents for sure!

I'd add that Krylon is nothing more than enamel fast dry.
If you apply as described by Dayton, it should hold on better. If you didn't scuff it, that's your biggest mistake.
An epoxy will stand up to abrasions and chipping but will chalk in time as all epoxies are not UV resistant. 100% of them with no exceptions.
A 2 part urethane is ideal but would require spray equipment.

thanks. I did the misting of layers of paint but not the scuffing or wipe down with solvent

this paint stuff "mistify's " me. Ha Ha just had to say that. sorry... shutting up.

when I went to remove the bad paint, the edp coating started comming off randomly in certain places. So I striped it all off and started with bare metal. Alls good
