1961 1/2 Ton Parking Brake Cables Routing

So, I have seen a few posts on 64 and onward, but I can't seem to find too much on the cable set up for my 61.

So, there is one cable coming from the lever (front cable) and I suppose two cables (rear cables) that join onto the front cable and go to their respective drums.

So, I guess some pictures would be helpful and how do the rear cables connect to the front? Is there an equalizer thingy for the rear cables?

Also, some snaps of each of the inside of the drums, if anyone has them would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
AP

Interesting. There is possibly a mechanism part way down the frame. I will investigate.

Thanks Big Fenders!

Here are some butt ugly shots of the routing on my 1960 GMC. They’re the best I can offer. They were taken at different periods so some of the exhaust system changes, and the torsion bar rear crossmember may be in place or removed:

The first three are of the driver side, the rest are of the passenger side, many showing close up shots of the idler mechanism:

Also, here's a diagram from the 1960 Chevy Truck Shop Manual that may be helpful:

I'll probably be crawling around under the truck this weekend, but I may not get to actually working on that part of the project the next couple of weeks.

Plus, adding photos to this wealth of knowledge for future members can't be a bad thing either. ;-)

If you can post some, that would be great.

Thanks k1rb.

Re: 1961 1/2 Ton Parking Brake Cables Routing

Hello gentlemen. I know this is an old post but I wanted to know if you guys can give me some Direction. I am looking for the spring and photos to the parking brake assembly. I believe I have the right spring but I don't know where it attaches to or if I'm missing the second part.

Thank you Markeb01 for the photos they gave me lots of information
