Factory Original?

I came across the following ad for an "original 64 K10", my question is would a SWB be available with 3/4 ton axles from the factory? (Below is a copy of the text from the ad.) I posted this in the 4X4 section also but was looking for as much feedback as possible as I was thinking of purchasing this truck.

My best research would indicate that this is a unaltered 3/4 ton SHORT BOX frame and chassis - although it COULD even be a ONE ton version. VERY VERY RARE either way!

ORIGINAL UNALTERED SHORT BOX PERIOD CORRECT FRAME! ORIGINAL SUSPENSION - lift blocks and all components are stock and unaltered. .
Over load (dual) rear leaf springs.

Front Differential: SPICER 44 with 12" brakes and "Power Train" locking hubs. Rear Differential: EATON model H011 heavy duty with 4:56 gears. Indestructible rear end type - popular with tractor pullers. Full floater.
Transfer case: Original Heavy-Duty TIMKEN #221.

NICE CLEAN interior with original seat. No mice smells!
1/2 ton BODY/sheet metal. Beautiful STRAIGHT tailgate! Box rail tops near PERFECT condition. Even the roof drip edge still has the caulking in tact all the way around! Needs cab mounts, rockers, front fenders and hood.

Extra front clip - SUPER STRAIGHT!

NICE RARE PROJECT!
EXTRA PARTS including the original transfer case and drive shafts (3).

First $4500.00
No trades - unless you have some original GOLD COLOR 67-72 Chev truck sheet metal parts (hood, tailgate, doors and passenger side front fender)

Honest Seller.

Re: Factory Original?

From what I understand you could get almost anything you wanted on an Ordered vehicle back then. Notice the COPO Camaro and such. Is there a build sheet behind the seat?

Re: Factory Original?

No 3/4 ton short beds, 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive 60-66 from the factory. 3/4 and 1 tons were available long wheelbase chassis only. Those 3/4 ton axles were added, or a long bed was shortened, but I doubt it. People have been putting 3/4 ton axles in K10's for years.

Re: Factory Original?

In other words, his "best research indicates" means "I just made this up".

Re: Factory Original?

Yup, the VIN says it was originally a 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive. A made up truck. Not "very, very rare" as the owner states. It will never be worth what a "factory original" K10 or K20 is. In my opinion , it's worth 2000.00 tops as a project truck.

How good can the research be when the vin will tell what it is and you still cant tell? Any simple google search on the vin number would have told if it was 1/2 3/4 or 1 ton and 2x4 or 4x4

In other words not the OE frame but a frame from the same era. So if the frame has been changed then likely most of the other suspension and rolling stock has been changed too and are NOT factory.

Re: Factory Original?

The VIN on the frame will tell you what year the frame is. That is unless the frame was from a GMC. Then there will not be any VIN.
