Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress

Not much progress in terms of work, but I have been stock piling parts. I have everything new inside and out for my truck sitting and waiting for me to finish the bodywork and then paint.

I am trying to get this truck as close to original as possible. This is my list of NOS parts that I managed to get so far:

NOS GM/Delco Parts

1. Deluxe Side marker light lenses
2. Taillight lenses
3. Backup lenses
4. Taillight bezels
5. Upper right Tailgate molding
6. Upper left tailgate molding
7. Center tailgate molding
8. Lower tailgate molding
9. Wood-grain tailgate band molding
10. Parking light lenses
11. Cargo light lens
12. Grille
13. Headlight Bezel
14. Door sill plates
15. Exterior door handles
16. Right cab paint line molding
17. Left cab paint line molding
18. Ashtray assembly
19. Tilt shift indicator
20. Neutral safety/backup switch
21. A/C air selector duct
22. A/C vacuum actuator
23. A/C water bypass valve
24. A/C evaporator core
25. Hood bumpers
26. Door bumpers
27. Hood adjustment screws
28. Console emblem
29. Door rocker panels
30. Tailgate
31. Parking brake handle
32. Gas neck grommet
33. Speedometer
34. Tachometer 8Cyl
35. Fuel gauge
36. Temperature gauge
37. Ammeter gauge
38. Oil gauge
39. Right hand lower wood-grain fender molding front of wheel
40. Right hand lower wood-grain fender molding rear of wheel well

I am looking for some 133" Longhorn NOS lower woodgrain moldings. Anyone have any?

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress

It's been so long since I have been able to work on her. However I have bought more NOS parts for my build:

*Interior door handles
*Window cranks
*Left hand front of wheel woodgrain
fender molding
*Left hand back of wheel woodgrain
fender molding
*Cab molding Woodgrain
*Hood emblem
*1970 Inner Grille
*lisence light assembly
*Cargo lamp switch
*Right hand door handle relay
*Left hand window relay

That's it for now. I may have missed a part or two.

I still need all the woodgrain lower moldings for the bed, driver door, and cab. If anyone has any NOS or NOS looking pieces, PM me please!

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress

I got more NOS parts stashed away for this build:

NOS black horn cap
NOS ignition switch
NOS wiper switch
NOS Headlight switch
All of the Lower woodgrain Molding in an NOS set
NOS A/C controls
1 NOS Longhorn bedside upper molding
1 NOS upper cab molding
NOS front windshield gasket (deluxe) DEFECTIVE Bummer
Both NOS 350 fender badges
NOS dash Bezel

Man, I really need to get some work done, though. I did manage to cut the openings for the cargo light and cargo switch.

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress

I have been doing little things such as rewireing and fitting parts so that when I get her painted, I am not messing with anything other than carefully putting stuff back on.

Re: 1970 Chevy Longhorn Restoration progress

I got the opportunity to work on her on Saturday and Sunday...a rarity with a wife and 1+ year old. I got many small tasks done. I refabricated the driver side bucket seat brackets so that they have the support of that of the original support brackets. I will post pics soon. I got small welding jobs done here and there. I also installed an NOS gas gauge as the the last NOS gas gauge did not work. I also connected the oil pressure gauge. Finally, I continued to work on minor body work in an effort to make the body as flawless as possible. It's not a lot of progress but it's loads compared to what I have been able to do in the past year, besides just buying stuff.
Pics and more progress to come...

Are all the Longhorns 8 lug? If so, are they 8x6 bolt pattern?

I believe, but could be wrong, that Longhorns came in 3/4 and 1 ton versions. I think that 8 lug was the standard. You might want to check out this site: LINK

Yes, Doug! I got it fast and safe. Thank you for packing it so well. I already adapted the rear housing to hold a tach as you can see. All of the gauges, with the exception of the speedwarning and vacuum are NOS.

The only problem is that I now have a Nice spare cluster that I created using the remaining gauges, my NOS speedometer gauge, and an NOS bezel. To sell or to keep, that is the rub.

Longhorn trucks are just plain COOL!!! Back in the 70's I had a '71 that I put a 283 in and used it to tow my stock car. I eventually painted it Corvette Rally Red. Sure wish I had it TODAY!!! You are doing a Nice Job!! Keep picking away at it!

I did get more NOS parts.

Inner NOS door fuzzies.
67-70 bullseye backup lenses
NOS shoulder belts
NOS console metal finish plate
NOS door laces
NOS deluxe winshield gasket
NOS defrost ducts
NOS looking windshield deluxe trim
NOS light dimmer
NOS deluxe wiper nob
Other parts:

Front/rear tow hooks
T3 lights
Perfect air vents (black)
Perfect Junction block
Perfect deluxe rearview mirror boot (black)
Speedwarning unit (thanks, Doug!)

There's more...I just can't remember.

I would love to get some physical work done. However, I am teaching a 3rd Grade GATE class and it's taking so much of my time planning and preparing lessons for those students. I also have a 19 month-old child and a wife that needs attention. We are also in the process of purchasing our first home, so the truck is on the back burner.

Soon, though, I will get to her.
