57 gas tank relocate tutorial?

As you could guess I'm wanting to move the tank to the rear. Ive searched the forums and have found many pictures of rear tanks that are installed and which ones to use. What I haven't found is a post of how to actually do the relocating. It looks like I need to remove the bed from the truck but I have never done that before. Is it as simple as removing the bed and placing the new tank in and moving fuel lines? If anyone has links that will help me that would be much appreciated. I haven't worked on many vehicles before but I want to do as much as I can on the truck.

removing the bed makes this job a lot easier. ..you'll need to remove the bed bolts and wiring..4 of your buddies can lift it off fairly easy..you'll need to fab mounting brackets for the new tank and reroute the fuel lines...you'll also need to figure out your fuel fill..

Re: 57 gas tank relocate tutorial?

If you use a Mustang fuel tank it slips into the lower flange of the chassis and bolts down through the flange doesn't get any easier.

They are available from http://www.tanksinc.com the earlier tanks are 2" wider the nth '71 which is 30.5" wide and holds 20 gal. The '70 is 32 5/8" wide and is 22 gal. check them out .

Thanks, my next question would be how do I store the bed once I take it off? I'm assuming I don't just set it on the ground. Do I stack some pallets up so that the deck of the bed rests on those? Or just set it down on the fenders?

Upside-down with the rails on 4-by's and some padding.
