LMAO, somtimes you just have to claim STUPIDITY

Went out first round yesterday at ADRA race #5. I can't believe this!!!!

My pairing for Round 1.... Rob Papeneau and his 8 second blown alcohol Chevette. They found a broken ladder bar just before first round. Rob is a good guy and tells me, I'm broke, but going to stage to get my showup points. Reminds me,, my 11 second dial to his 8.60 dial,, DON'T GO RED!!!"

So I plug an extra tenth into the box to make sure and away we go. I'm away green and think,, well this is like a free time trial right.... Yeah right!!!

Rob dialed a 8.69 that his car usually runs, leaves slow and easy and limps to the finsh line with a 21.78 @ 45mph. I was almost to the return road when I saw HIS win light come on.

Just HOW STUPID!!! I crossed 16 seconds before he did,,, but wasn't smart enough to lift at the top end to make SURE I didn't BREAK OUT!!!

It was hot, miserable HOT (102°), Firebird was about as inconsiderate to the team as they possibly could be. So going out in the 1st, and saying that's it!!!I'm DONE with Firebird was a fitting end to a really screwed up day.

Its not worth frying yourself over a race in that heat with the air temp of 102 and probably a surface temp of 130.

You should have told Rob you felt bad about his ladder bar issue and gave him one more round

Re: LMAO, somtimes you just have to claim STUPIDITY

Aside from the blatent BS Firebird throws out,, that's why I built the truck and put it on a throttle stop,, and am racing ADRA and not the NHRA track teams.
The 11.5+ ET means NO firesuit, no gloves .. all that crap. In fact can mak passes in a T-shirt (although I wear an old single layer jacket 'just because')

Here's Firebird's team race schedule for the rest of this season (and remember we are in a deseert where it doesn't get under 100° until after midnight, then lows in the 90's usually all summer)
May 19
June 16
July 21
Aug 11

They ran back to back (Saturday Sunday) races in Jan and March. Said it was to "help out the racers who were having a hard time affording to make the team races" How the heck does that help!!! $90 PER DAY entry fees into SuperPro, your going to burn 5-7 gallons of $12 race fuel PER DAY ($16 a gallon if you buy it at Firebird) But there going to 'help us out' so we have to come up with that 2x in one weekend,, and not spend the $ for tow fuel a second time,,, you can just leave your trailer in the pit for the next day.... So whatcha gonna do??? WALK HOME!! for a nights sleep?

Rumors have been going around that Firerbird was being bulldozed and they were making another Casino. Charlie Allens lease is up on the facility and the rumors are really flying now. But the tribe isn't stupid,, it's a cash cow when the NHRA is in town (Div7 season opener and national event) . Besides,, it's only 3500 feet from the new Casino,, and the tribe code says no casinos will be within 1 miles of each other. So the rumors are... well just that.

But if they don't start treating the racers better,, it won't matter, it will be a ghost town!

Sorry,,, off on a rant this morning. EVERYONE has to make money or no sense being open. But in this economy the tracks (especially Firebird) has lost sight of who keeps the track open the other 363 days when the NHRA folds up and moves on. I drive 28 miles, right past Firebird, and another 80 miles all the way across Phoenix to Speedworld. It's kind of funny,,, Speedworld may be in need of some repairs,, but they act like they WANT the racers there!!!

Re: LMAO, somtimes you just have to claim STUPIDITY

Royal Purple raceway here in Houston has a good bracket program that pays its way and has good car numbers , but they make more money on specialty events . Truck only , import bash , The nationals ( big money) etc . The friday night street car night ALWAYS packs the house with cars and people .

We are lucky to have 2 tracks here . The small track does most of the heads up and grudge night stuff . Really two different markets .
