Change in direction....

After many years thinking I was going to install a 402 BB and T-400 trans, I have decided to change directions. I just purchased a 2001 Camaro Z28 with an LS1 motor and 4L60E transmission and once I rebuild them, that is what will go into my Panel. I have heard horror stories about trying to gather the parts you need when just purchasing the motor so I opted to buy the whole car. Wish me luck!! WES

Re: Change in direction....

Nice! That's the way to go. I have not even considered an LS swap due to the seemingly endless list of parts that need to accompany it. I know the process has been documented and many have made the swap fairly painlessly, but it's much easier for me right now to just stick with the little old 307 that's still cruising right along.

I put an LS1 in my '67 Panel Truck with 0 problems. I cut my own wire loom down, bought the motor mount adapter plates, bought Hooker cast iron headers, and it all just fell into place. I used the stock TH350 trans cross member in the forward set of holes and the stock TH350 driveshaft fit with no modifications. It has a 3.73 Posi rear end and gets about 24 MPG, This was done in 2015 and I love driving this thing....

Re: Change in direction....

Thanks CG. That would be great. I am finding out that I will have to go to some sort of electronic gauge for the speedometer. Not quite sure how that will work out, but I think that it will be the least of my worries over the entire build of my panel... lol That's great milage LocDoc, I am starting to get excited obout the build agan.. .. For my speedometer I used a Dakota digital converter, controlled by the ECM and VSS. That way you can use the stock speedometer. Works good.

Re: Change in direction....

You will not regret it. I have an LS1 out of a 98 Z28 in my 1957 pickup. I daily drive a 2002 Camaro SS with LS1, and I previously owned a 99 Z28. All have been excellent motors. Love me some LsX.

I think those dashes look really good in our trucks.

You won't regret it! Let me know if you have any questions. I could be persuaded to fly up there and help you with finalizing the tune and wiring if needed......
