Truck Won't Idle right????

I finally got home from Kuwait and started tinkering with my truck. When I first started it up it idled real fast. So I changed the plugs/wires then in missed alot. I went back through and my buddy and I removed the Dist. cap I put it back on and looked through my wires to make sure they were in the right firing order. Now it will start but runs real rough and will die if you don't stay on the gas. What is my problem? Thanks

moving this to the truck forums... welcome home!
I would drouble... tripple check the firing order... pay close attention to the #5 and #7 plug wires... VERY commonly crossed.

Inklover. Altus Ark.? I don't know how long the truck has been sitting but the gas can be old and the fuel filter can be stopped up or as said it could be a vacumn leak. If it has a power brake booster remove the vacumn line and plug it to see if there is a leak in the booster and of course check any vacumn lines on the engine. If it's automatic it probably has a vacumn line running from the intake manifold down to the modulator valve on the trans. It will have a short length of rubber hose on each end of it. And welcome home.

Re: Truck Won't Idle right????

Good suggestion above on the gas. Also just because you put in new plugs\wires does not mean they are good, pull one wire off at a time and see if there is one that doesn't change the idle. Might want to go ahead and change the cap and rotor since you did plugs\wires.
Vacuum leak, if its small, will usually just increase idle speed and make it hard to adjust the idle mixture screws.

Re: Truck Won't Idle right????

back to the gas when it goes bad it can really gum up the carb and plug your jets, if it only stays running when you hit the accelrator pump then id say pull the carb and give it a good cleaning
