Re: cruise control issue?

First, what are you driving?
Second, what size fuse was already there?
Third, my first guess is brake switch. Disclaimer strictly a guess.

Re: cruise control issue?

AC delco part# D1565E
It's located at the brake pedal. Should be pretty simple.

Re: cruise control issue?

There is no adjustment to do on the brake light switch on the 1994 style switch, but many people struggle to get the clip off to remove the old switch.

I may not be near as easy as you think it will be.

Re: cruise control issue?

More than likely its the switch on the turn signal stalk. You really need to learn to troubleshoot instead of buying parts. get a semi-decent volt/ohm meter and google for diagrams and start reading wires. you need an account to view this but its worth the sign up.

Re: cruise control issue?

My 88 4.3l v6 5 speed. My cruise doesn't set correctly. And yeah. It is in the stalk. It works if I turn it off then then on and set it, then push resume. It sets and holds and then I can increase speed by bumping the resume accel but I cannot decrease it using the set decel button. You can try this it is not a fix but did allow for me to get relief when driving.

Re: cruise control issue?

There are two switched on the pedals for the cruise and one for the brake lights. The switches for the cruise can be tested with a multimeter. They will be no resistance when normal ie pedal up and have resistance when activated is pedal pushed. The brake light is opposite open pedal up and closed pedal down.

Re: cruise control issue?

Don't forget on a manual trans there is also a release / trip switch on the clutch pedal to disengage the cruise if you depress the clutch. (like Joe is saying) My 94 the pedal linkage had 'sagged' just enough that if I hit a bump it would trip the switch. There is no adjustment on that one and I just wrapped a piece of tape around the pedal.

Easy test,, use your toe to lift the pedal. If the cruise will work until you let it hang free,, you found the culprit

Re: cruise control issue?
