Hope the weather will be nice.

If the weather is nice, think I'll install the lift on the 87 K5.

Re: Hope the weather will be nice.

Going to attempt to install the lift on my K5 Blazer this weekend as long as the weather is good. Have all the parts. 4" BDS lift springs for the front, raised steering arm, a 4" DIY4X shackle flip for the rear with extended heavy duty shackles. (will give 4.5, to 5 inch lift on rear. K5's tend to get that saggy butt because of weight of topper.) Have extended braided steel break line kit, Poly Urethane bushings and Bilstien shocks. Bought the new U-bolts for front axle yesterday. Don't think I'll need to lower the transfer case, but if so, that can be done at a later time. Will replace motor mounts, transmission mounts and transfer case mount with Poly Urethane units in near future. Also want to replace sway-bar bushings and body bushings with the Poly Urethane units. Will do a 1" maybe 2" body lift when replacing the body bushings. By the time I'm done, the K5 will handle and ride better then it did the day it came off the assembly line at the factory. Will take pics and post them.

Fun fun fun, and after 12 hours not even one side is done. Hope tomorrow will go quicker.

Re: Hope the weather will be nice.

Nice...Lifts always take longer than planed on these old trucks. Hey if you haven't already,Start soaking that steering arm in penetrating oil. It seem to help that nightmare of task go a little easier. Looking forward to seeing the finished pics.

Re: Hope the weather will be nice.

I was pretty happy till this morning when I took it in for a alignment. Couldn't do it because a ball joint is going bad. Great, just what I wanted to hear. Looks like it'll be sitting in my driveway till I can knock it apart to do the ball joints.

Re: Hope the weather will be nice.

Hey,
No need to take it to an alignment shop anyway!
Just set the toe-in at about a 1/8 to 1/4 inch.
Place markers on the tires, measure and spin 180 to the other side. Adjust tie rod ends accordingly.

Re: Hope the weather will be nice.

Sense I have to one, might as well do all 4. Sense It'll be tore down that far, probably be smart to replace the U-Joints. Also might ditch the factory lock outs for a nice set of Warns. Oh, and it'll be a good time to replace the studs. I have one broken on both sides up front. I just didn't want too tear it down again this soon.
