Front Clip Removal How to

OK here we go, I will try and post all the pics in order and give them the correct captions for the Complete front clip removal with bolt locations and the tips/tricks that I learned when removing mine. I thought that there was another thread with the pics but I couldn't find it so here we go.
STEP #1
REMOVE THE HOOD, (Mark the hood hing location on the hood with a marker to make it easier for lining back up once you put the hood back on the truck)

STEP #2
ANTENNA REMOVAL (make sure that you use a piece heavy fabric or a shop towel wrapped around the base of the antenna so that you don't scratch it up)
Watch that you don't pull on the antenna cable to hard (you might remove the plug end (that's what I did)
The antenna cable can be located behind the glove box

STEP #3
Windshield Wiper Removal
OK this step can be frustrating, however if you lift the windshield wiper all the way up you will see a tiny clip, using a small screw driver lift up on the tab and then the entire wiper assembly will come off, you might need to wiggle it a little bit. (DONT GET FRUSTRATED, THIS IS PERHAPHS THE HARDEST PART OF THE FRONT CLIP REMOVAL)

Re: Front Clip Removal How to

STEP#4
COWL REMOVAL
Ok, there are alot of hidden screws and bolts for the Cowl,
there is one bolt on the side, one bolt on the top, two screws located near the wiper post, and hidden under the wiring gutter there are about 6 screws.
Make sure that you keep track of how many screws you remove (I put them in little baggies which makes the job of putting things back together so much easier) and oh yeah label the baggies.
Also don't forget to write down how many shims you removed and from what location (pictures with a digital camera works wonders for alzshe (oh crap I forgot the name)

Re: Front Clip Removal How to

STEP #5 Fender Bolts
There are a total of 6 (three on each side)
2 on top and 1 on the bottom
Loosen up the top two (pay attention to shims and record # and bolt hole location) Leave these in place until you are almost ready to remove the whole clip
The one on the bottom might give you some hassle, have patients and use a breaker bar to loosen it up

Re: Front Clip Removal How to

STEP#6
Wiring Harness
This is an easy step, just unbolt the center screw, and use a screw driver to loosen the bracket from the base, don't use alot of force (you might break the plastic and these darn things are expensive)

Re: Front Clip Removal How to

STEP #8
Bumper Bracket removal
This step is also fairly simple a total of 6 bolts, however these can be stubborn I suggest using a breaker bar and an assistant to support the bumper when you are almost ready to remove it.
The easiest way the I found is leaving the brackets attached to the frame

Re: Front Clip Removal How to

STEP #9
Radiator Support Bolts
There are only two of these, and they are usually really rusted out, I suggest that you replace them although they can be pretty pricey $50 bucks at LMC,
The breaker bar is your best friend, also be careful some of these bolts have two bolts on each screw, make sure that you don't put the socket over both bolts or you will never get this off.
Some times the rubber mounts are wont come off just use a rubber hammer and then they will vibrate off.

Re: Front Clip Removal How to

There is a difference in the core support mounts between 67/68 & 69-72. The one pictured above is from a 72. The 67/68 Is the same as the 60-66 and does not have the "cone" shaped bushings. It has thick metal washers and thick rubber pads Here is a layout of the 60-68 mount set. Picture courtesy of JC from Brothers Trucks (thanks JC, your the coolest)
OH Yeah and BTW
Your almost done just a few more bolts left

Re: Front Clip Removal How to

STEP #10
Inner Fender Bolt removal (these are the ones that attach to the support braces on the cab)
There are only 2 of these and they are easy to remove but again watch out for the rust monster and use your best friend on this exercise the breaker bar)

Re: Front Clip Removal How to

STEP #11
Finally you can remove the fender bolts near the door pillars that were hidden by the cowl (remeber that you loosened them but didn't remove them earlier)

Re: Front Clip Removal How to

STEP #12
Ok, now is the time to ensure that if you have any items like transmissin lines, a/c condensor hoses or the like that they are disconnected,
Up next is the actual lifting off of the front clip
