Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Did you drive all the way to the coast for that; I thought that one was over on the Olympic peninsula?
Also thought it said "parts only"?
Maybe it was a different one...

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Thanks. Love the truck. Wasn't planning on buying anything but I saw it and had to have it. I was planning on building one just like this in the future. It was exactly what I was going to do. The guy put about twice what I paid for it in it. Now I am going put my own touch on it. Tweak it and make my own.

Things I want I want to do.
1. Replace cowl induction hood back to stock.
2. Interior - change the seats to leather. Love King Ranch Leather if it would fit. Also all beige interior. Going back to rubber floor mat. Hate cleaning carpet.
3. Widen the tires a little. Aluminum modulars. Leave the stance about like it is. Getting to old to climb up in a lifted truck.
4. Upgrade front and rear bumpers.
5. Upgrade the electronics. Possibly digital gauges.

Guess I am going to start me a build page and upgrade my account so I sell or swap some parts.

Its to funny you say you are replacing the hood as that was the one eye sore I think that truck has, just doesn't fit that truck.

What will you go with for wheels and tires? Can't wait to see its new look!

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Yeah the hood doesn't fit the truck with the stock look it has now. As for wheels I am kind of keeping it old school as well. The Pro Comp series 1069's (aluminum modular) look good but might go with another brand. Probably 16x9. Tires not sure what brand. Like about a 33x12.50x16. Just want to widen the stance a little without having to lift it anymore.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Well not good news for my new crew cab. Was driving to another town today and the water pump cracked on one side. The fan was vibrating so bad that one blade came off and went through the fan shroud and hitting the hood. Hood has a dent now. Got towed home. Stripped all the parts off. Had to order almost everything that I needed. Be here tomorrow. Put my girl back together. I am assuming that will be the only problem.

The life of driving an old truck. No worries.

I got a set of simulators for dirt cheap - looks 100 times better than the old crusty, rusty steel wheels!

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

And a before and after of my 2wd:
- took off the running boards
- installed 2" hangars and 2" shackles in the back; it already had 3"(?) Super Bell Tech spindles in the front and what may have been homemade lowering shackles in the rear?
- used Alcoas (that will end up on my 4x4 crew when this one goes short bed/single wheel), the tires are 225/70-16 vs 215/85-16 so that is about 1" lower than before
I think I am going to try the rear springs out of my '91 3/4 ton parts Suburban in the back to see how much lower that gets it. I am figuring at least an inch in just spring pack thickness (6 vs. 9), plus the truck springs look to have more arch to them. Then a front spring to get it level and call it good!

That sucks! I had water puking from my overflow the other day. The tired 454 in the ol' girl didn't like towing my dads big rig semi truck after he snapped a u-joint. It was a 10 mile tow but it was heavy, lol. I'm going to swap the powerplant someday but cant decide between a 12V cummins or 8.1 Vortec. I'm leaning towards Vortec so I can keep it "Chevy" under the hood and have less modifications. My plan is to also stab a 5-speed in it

Someone needs to rescue that truck. Has alot of potential if it isnt full of rust.

The white one is cool. Its turning radius would be a country mile, lol. How much $$$$ did they want for it?

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

$2995

http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/4573553785.html

1985 Chevy Crew Cab Dually that has been stretched into a limousine.

The story goes that a dozen or so of these trucks were built in the mid 80's for the first National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. After that this truck was supposed to have been owned by somebody famous (I don't have a clue who anymore, a title search might turn it up), it was used to pull race car trailers for a while (in a spot or two you can still see the fluorescent green paint), moved around some more, and then I bought it in 2001. I had grand plans of fixing it, and got no farther than getting the windows tinted, with limo tint of course. I had planned on putting a 6" lift and 35's on it, I still would if I had the time.

The vinyl top needs fixed. I have collected all of the sheet metal that is necessary to completely replace the top with metal, I have a suburban top and a crew cab top, which should make enough sheet metal with the correct factory bends. Each of these tops extends down below the window-bottom line. I also have enough extra doors that the middle limo windows can be shaped from factory metal. Once the metal work is done, everything will have factory lines and bends.

The engine was a 454. It has a spun rod bearing. It has tri-y headers, (Doug Thorly I think). Turbo400 automatic transmission, NP205 transfer case. I have a 2001 8.1L, 496/502 with 4L80E automatic transmission that is available separately. If it makes or breaks the deal, I'll find a 454 to put in the pickup so you have a running vehicle.

The interior is ok, it is gray leather, with various corian pieces. It needs some TLC.

I have two replacement dually fenders that go with the truck.

As you can see from the pictures, I switched from the original 1985 grill to a 90's style grill.

Let me know if you want to come see it, Paul show contact info (phone, text, email are all fine). I do need to sell it, so make me an offer. What's the worst that happens, we end up with a deal?
