Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

I do go to all of the bringing Pomona to AZ swapmeets as well as every other auto swapmeet I find in AZ. Going to the Pomona CA swapmeet this weekend. I did find some good stuff at the Schriners. The best being a lime green Snap On 1/2 impact for $50

Hopefully they'll start doing the chva swapmeet back at the dragway with the new ownership. Did you happen to go to dinos get down show?

Here's the door panels and wood grain trim I even got the lower pieces for the kick panels to match too! Anyone ever seen another wood trim edition like this? The 88 suburban had it running all the way back and across the barn doors and on the dash bezal.

I was at Dino's with my shortbed crewcab. I was parked over in the dirt behind the 4x4 Cummins Suburban

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Merry Christmas everyone hope you all had a good day. Picked up a new to me bumper and guards yesterday and got it installed. Going back and forth on the bumper guards I've always wanted them because I've never had a set but now that there on there I'm missing the no guard look. What does everyone think keep them or pull them off? Also picked up a set of 73-74 orange turn signal/marker lights to change up the front end a little bit.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Also finally swapped my nasty old seat belts for the nice tan set a few pages back. Everything bolted right up except for the rear retractable belts. I had to redrill the mounting holes over 1.5" kinda odd I thought considering my trucks a 76 and they came out of a 79 c30 but nevertheless there in.my seat belt buzzer even works now. Talk about annoying!

On a side note anyone need the old red belts? There FREE just pay for shipping.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

I need to pick up my new bed this coming week and hopefully I'll get all the power doors installed and the harness in. Also want to make some time to install my stereo and speakers since I'm tired of driving with no music and install my new pass side fender. I'm getting all the ac stuff from the wrecked silverado for the crewcab so vintage air is out since that stuff is all free. The Whole Ac System Is Still Hooked Up And Sealed Can Beat that!

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Back to the burnt Cheyenne got the motor/ trans, exhaust installed and pretty much everything bolted back together. Need to install all the power steering stuff and start the wiring. Checklist left to do is wiring, reassemble the interior,Install the windshield and gasket, hood, new brakes and put it on the market. Haven't been able to do much to it with the holidays but should be able to jump back on it next month.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

While the Cheyenne is at the shop I decided to get started on the blue c10 shortbed that were putting the 454,4l80 into. Plan is to degrease and clean the rest of the frame and get it ready to paint. I already have all the new front suspension to rebuild it with and body mounts to set the cab back on. Going to run 15x7 and 15x8 rallys with McGaughys 4.5/6" drop kit just like the burnt Cheyenne has on it. Also need to remove the heater and cut/install the factory ac system off another parts suburban. Hopefully the burnt Cheyenne will sell in February to fund this one and have this one ready for sale by april/may. Then I'll be able to do alot more to the crewcab like order the mobsteel wheels ,paint, finish the interior and maybe find a 6.0/4l80 pullout. I've got big plans this coming year hopefully everything goes as planned but we all know how that is.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Well I was able to get a little done to my crewcab while I was off for Christmas/new years break. Finally got my power doors on and the harness installed. The bodylines still need final adjustment but that'll come another day. I had to remove all the interior trim panels, dash pad, gauge cluster to make room to get the harness installed. Now I need to clean up the door panels and get them painted to match my interior. Also thinking about ditching the wood grain panel insert and just keeping the wood grain on the bottom.i also installed the new fender only to fight with alignment issues for a couple hours. Had too many shims to get it close but it just didn't want to line up quite right and ended up pulling it off and installing my original fender again. Guess I'll just patch the rust on my original fender. I also installed the rubber wind/noise block isolators On the cowl since my Truck didn't originally come with them. They sure made a difference! Here's the pics of the install I did have to pull both fenders in order to drill the holes in the original spot based off measurements I took from a friend's parts suburban. I also installed the deluxe kick panels and.will get pics of those later

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

The worthless fender. I had 3 thick shims on the cowl 3 shims at the door post and I had to slot the bottom hole to get the bolt in. Just couldn't get it to line up right where I was happy with it so j pulled it and installed my original almost a perfect fit without shims go figure

Driverside pics and the interior holes/wire harness routing. I tried to make everything look as close to factory as possible and pretty happy with the end result.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

I started to feather out all the stripes on the doors and hit the bare metal spots with some primer to avoid flash rust. I was planning on sanding the whole thing and starting the bodywork this week but our weather forecast calls for rain most of the week so guess I'll be working on other stuff.

I don't remember if I mentioned this earlier but we picked up a 5.3,4l65e for the blue c10 back a few posts and I found someone who wants the 454,4l80 combo so I think it's pretty much a done deal were doing the ls swap!

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

You have a lot of irons in the fire my friend. I enjoyed reading through this and look forward to more progress.

Is it worth it to cut a patch panel out of the fender that you can't get to fit so you can repair the original? The fender might be worth more than the cost of a patch panel from LMC or Brothers.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

I thought about selling it or trading it but at the same time if it fits my truck so poorly what's the chances of it fitting someone else's any better? For now it'll just sit in the parts pile. Speaking of irons in the fire we traded off the burnt Cheyenne for a 72 c30 dually. So that's one less headache to deal with lol. Now I can get back to the blue c10 and my crewcab.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Here's my Saturday score!!! This is why it pays to watch craigslist daily. A guy posted this Friday night 2004 silverado 70k miles 750 bucks. I called and made a deal on the phone. Drove 1.5 hours each way but picked i picked it up for 700 bucks!!! With a clean title. It's got a 6.0/4l80e with supposedly 70k miles. Back story is it has an issue in the harness and wouldn't control the transmission so it was parked and slowly they started to rob parts off it to keep the other mine trucks running. They recently had an auction and all the old bodystyle trucks were liquidated.

Nice score on the 6.0 truck. That is exactly what I am looking for. I think I know where one is. Sitting behind an oil field shop.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Well it's been a while since I've posted. It was such a pain to post and upload pics on my old phone that I kinda lost interest and mainly posted on facebook but my new s7 edge is awesome and I'm looking forward to jumping back in here. Well as I left off earlier this year I had two irons in the fire with my buddy that we got burnt out on and ended up getting rid of. The 77 burnt Cheyenne we traded off to a friend for a 71 c30 dually and the blue 78 shortbed I parted out in anticipation for a killer 58 apache shortbed fleetside which I was going to put the 78 frame under but when it came time to finally pick it up I got Bull**** excuse after excuse and ended up losing a friendship over I think he sold it out from under me for more money even though we had an agreement and the fact that I completely got rid of the blue 78 body in preparation to drop the 58 body onto that frame. But that's old news now and life goes on.... so here's a whole bunch of new pics and progress on the crewcab

Here's the 71 c30 that we traded for the 77 burnt Cheyenne. The Cheyenne is just about ready to be put back on the road btw.

Here's an 80 Gmc side job that I did around tax time. I installed a 4/6 drop and converted the front end over to round headlights because he didn't like the square 80 look.

Re: project orange crush 76 crewcab build

Here's a 76 c10 I bought for 300 bucks around tax time too. we intended for it to be a quick flip and it was just that! I rebuilt the whole front suspension with a 90 dollar ebay kit painted the engine bay and frame and installed a 350/700r4 that we had laying around and some guy driving by saw it and had to have it! Quickest 2500 bucks ever lol not bad for less than 700 total investment
