Looking for guidance on cutting new springs for a slight drop

I'm rebuilding the front suspension on my 72 C10, and planned to reuse the existing coils to get me by till I can buy a drop kit. Unfortunately, I found one of my springs was broken when I pulled it apart. Now I'm thinking I will buy a new set of springs and cut them off a little bit to achieve the current ride height of the worn out springs. Can anyone tell me how much to cut off of a new spring to achieve a specific ride height? Thanks for the help.

Agreed^^^^^If your gonna buy springs anyway why not just go ahead with drop springs?...on the other hand most all the springs I've cut, 1 full coil usually results in about 2"of drop..but that's not a rule..just a guesstamate..

OK, I'm all in on buying them shorter than stock. Where should I buy them from?

Update, the driver side spring was broken in 3 places. What's the max drop I can run with only shorter springs? My guess is with the original worn springs that were broken, I was probably 2"-3" drop. I really don't want to put on dropped springs and lift the truck. I've decided to do the back too. I'm sure they are shot or maybe even broken too.

I think I might get the Western Chassis deluxe lowering kit with 2" dropped springs for the front and 4" dropped springs for the back, with with front and back shock relocaters, shocks and hardware. Any opinions on that kit?

I dont agree with lowering springs being the better choice. I have found that almost every brand out there is too soft. I prefer to use a stock C10 thats been cut instead. I have a buddy that uses C20 springs instead and his customers love the ride.

Good info n2trux..I've never run a store bought lowering spring..all mine were cut factory coils..also good to know about the c20 springs...thanks for setting us straight

I was never dissatisfied with anything from Early Classic Enterprises. www.earlyclassic.com The lowest they offer is 2" drop.

There's other companies that offer a 3" drop spring.
