Re: 2017 HRPT in a 72 Super with my wife and sons

today my wife and I decided to recover the seat before we headed out Friday. Actually yesterday I asked her where we could get some of those Mexican blankets to cover the seat. She called Southern Kentucky Classics which is only a half hour drive away and they had the houndstooth cover our truck is supposed to have. So we went this morning and picked it up. I'm not sure what year the seat actually is but it's not a 72. Anyway, we worked all day trying to get the 72 seat covers to work on the seat. It's in no way a professional job but it looks much better and it should be more comfortable. I had also ordered one of those ash try cup holders last week and it arrived today. The previous owner was going to paint the whole truck flat black, thankfully they only did the interior. They got paint all over everything but I cleaned it up best I could years ago. Anyway, they painted the dash, roof and doors black and the glove box, door panels and other items red. I left the black but painted the red stuff blue again. So that's why the interior is black. Someday I might paint it all blue again. We still have no headliner or carpet but it doesn't look too awful. I also washed it up really good even though it's faded and rusty it looks pretty good I think.

Thanks, yeah it's a great time. I can't believe my wife has agreed to ride for thousands of miles across the country in my old junk with no AC sometimes crawling at just a few mph. But she loves it as much as I do. My boys have come as passengers and it's cool to have them driving old junk they built too! We have made so many friends over the last 7 years, I can't put it into words. Some say it's the most fun you can have with your clothes on!
Each hotel every night is a car show you wouldn't believe. Sometimes two or three hotesl share the same property and there can be hundreds of cars filling the lots. It's s great time to walk around after a long day of driving and talk to people and see stuff close up. Even help repair a few! Anyway, I will begin taking pics of the journey when we hit the road Friday. I will try to upload many at the hotels but may have to wait until I get back home for a lot of them. Thanks for the interest and letting me share my experience!

Look me up when you're in KC!

We're doing the HRPT as well, but not in our 70 GMC K2500 (Maybe next year for that one!)

We'll be in our Bright Green (with REAL original patina!) 1959 Studebaker Lark. We ran the Long Haul last year and had a GREAT time. We're planning on it again this year. We're from the KC area, so it will be great to hook up with someone from KY!

I'll PM you with info.

Re: 2017 HRPT in a 72 Super with my wife and sons

I've been the past 3 years in a row (long haul in 2015 & 2016). I'm definitely going to miss not going this year.

Have fun, keep your eyes open, and leave plenty of space. Because of the tour, traffic can come to a dead stop in some weird places you'd never expect, but being your 7th time, you already know that

Hey Craig, I'll keep my out for you on the leg from KC to Newton. I'll be sitting in a yard on 65 north of Humeston with some of my car buds. Might have my 72 Cheyenne sitting out in the yard with us. Going to be a hot b___ch that day.

We made it almost 600 miles today to Kansas City. A good friend had KC BBQ for us so we relaxed and caught up with each other. It's been a year since we saw each other last!

Looks fun. I'm interested in going next year. Truck needs a bit a work before trying a cross country trip though.
