Re: Vintage Air Sale

Looking for pricing on Gen IV system for my '71 GMC. Factory air truck, but will not need lines and compressor, using compressor on LS1 engine, which means I am on my own as far as lines are concerned!!!

Looking forwards to your response!!!

Re: Vintage Air Sale

Justin,
Need a quote for a Gen4 system for my '64' Chev. I do not need the compressor as I will be using the stock compressor on my 5.3LS motor. I went this direction so I could retain all the stock LS serpentine system.

Re: Vintage Air Sale

Just a piece of information to you LS swap guys. Vintage Air says that the LS compressors should not be used with there kits because they are variable displacement compressors and will burn up/fail prematurely. I have not personally experience this, but want to pass on what I have heard, so you aren't swapping out compressors a year down the road. I'm working on scanning all the necessary components into ProE and designing a bolt in bracket system for the serpentine Sanden compressor that Vintage Air kits use. Hoping to have a model worked up in a couple weeks.

Never heard this one before. Not being an air conditioning expert I don't know how to respond. I know lots of Silverado LS owners who don't have any troubles with the stock compressor. What about the Vintage Air system makes them fail prematurely?

Re: Vintage Air Sale

I'm not an AC expert either, but I'm going to guess since they are variable displacement, the stock LS computer will control the compressor stroke or compression somehow depending on the load. The Vintage Air probably just runs them full bore because they don't have a computer to control it. I really don't know, that's just my interpretation of it. Anyways, I originally learned this from the Vintage Air Q and A during the 48hourcamaro build at Ridetech. I've tried to find the video, but no success so far.

Re: Vintage Air Sale

In referance on LS comp should not be used with vintage air kits this is a new one for myself.I have sold several dozens of ac kits with customers running ls motors with factory ac comp on them and I have never had one customer call me back and say there was a problem.

On a other note we have a customers hotrod we installed the new gen IV in with a ls motor and factory comp on the motor and this car is driven 5 days a week and he has never had a problem the only thing he complained about was the ac blows to cold for him.But then he said when he did not have it in his car his wife would not ride with him anywhere. If he was having a problem I would be the first to know about it he tells me everthing about his car

Re: Vintage Air Sale

Here is some more info to all who has a ls motor in there truck and the ones who are running the factory comp

We do not recommend using the ls factory compressors off of the camaros, gto's or vettes because they are a variable displacement type compressor and our epansion valve metered system requires a fixed displacement type compressor.

The truck ls motors are the only motors that come with a fixed displacement type compressor and this will work fine with no problems.

Thanks for this info Justin. My whole setup is from a 2003 Silverado so it should work out fine.

Great talking with you today. Can't wait to see my GenIV system for my "64" Chevy short step project. It should make a sweet ride when done.
