Oil pan clearance 71 k20
Anyone have clearance issues between 350 sbc oil pan and cross member? 1971 k20. Looks to be a stock looking oil pan and all mounts for motor and transmission look to be correct. Thanks

What clearance issue are you having? Could you have the wrong engine crossmember? Keep in mind each engine type had its own unique crossmember. If you post up some pictures we can help figure it out.
My 72 K20 came factory with a 350 and has no clearance problems.

Your '71 K20 should be a virtual twin to my '72 K20 which has no clearance issues. Maybe yours has had something swapped, anything from the oil pan to the entire engine.

I wonder if you have an aftermarket oil pan. Notice how square the front corners are.

I agree with BlueK5 (good eye)
Is your pan touching the cross member or hitting it under torque? From the pics it looks close but it clears. If it's only making "light" contact you can support the engine at the front, remove the cross member & relieve the areas where it makes contact. Or, you're already there, put a stock pan on. You can get one for about $40.00 Be careful! If you're like me, you will pull the cross member to dent the pan & next thing you know you're doing a frame off restore! |

I did notice the squared off pan. Maybe a extra capacity pan?

How many quarts does it take for an oil change with a new filter? My stock 350 reads 'full' on the dipstick with 5 quarts.
