According to felpro my 87 did not come with steel shim head gaskets? 1st time into??

Truck has 68k miles never been into so I am confused. Could it have been into within the first 19k miles I didn't own it? Possible I guess but unlikely so just curious did they come with steel shim or not they pointed me towards a composite gasket which I don't like that material.

Obviously I cannot speak for your truck but, I can say that I have torn down many 5.7 VIN K (TBI) engines and have never found them to have the steel shim gaskets. I would use the .028 compressed thick gaskets from GM. I am pretty sure that's what they came with.
