Is there a color from a specific paint manufacturer in a spray bomb can that is close to Chevy Orange? Instead of paying 5 bucks a can I want to get the $1.29 special "cheapo" cans.

I'm sure there is, but it won't last long. Isn't your motor worth more than 5 bucks?

Actually you can use normal CHEPO paints on an engine. Regular enamel spray paint is good up to 500 degrees. The $5 a can hi temp engine paint is over kill.

Hi temp paint will crack also. I've always used production paint (the same stuff I shoot the body with).

From what I remember I don't think that enamel would be good for your engine block because I don't think it allows heat to escape and keeps the combustion heat trapped in the block!

I use PPG Dp-40 self etching epoxy primer on a clean bare surface. If the motor has not been hot tanked and freshly machined use Laquer thinner and brush the heck out of it. Then top coat it with any color or mix you want using PPG's recommended top coat. I have done this on 3 rebuilds. One went back to the machine shop for more work and they had to hot tank it when it came back it was even higher gloss than when I sent it to them. This is expensive but will last.

POR-15 makes an engine painting kit for around $40 and they guarantee enough ot do motor or they will send more. Has anyone used this or think this might be good way to go?

I used Duplicolr Engine Enamel Black,or use to use Chevy Orange.But 2 cans.i wouldnt bother with the 1.29 stuff it doesnt look,stick as good,and the can will last about a 3rd as long as the quality.I hate cheap spray paint.

I bought chevy orange from the dealer. i primed the engine first then painted it. Turned out great. I'll have to take some pics when I get my carb on it in a week or so. The gm orang looks awesome
