Correct me if I'm wrong but another difference is the headlamp bezels are different colors, chrome, and black. I think the 70 is chrome.

Not necessarily true either, My Dad has a 70 that is original with black steel headlight buckets and my 69 has black steel headlight buckets. Im not quite sure why they used 2 differents types.

I have a 70 grille complete,with headlamp bezels(no headlights)certainly not perfect was from my 70 daily driver.I cannot ship this $40

I was always told the chrome bezels were actually replacement items. But that's just from some one else's word.

Man am I confused!! I was leaning toward the grills being the same, just painted different. But after looking at longhornmail's pics, I don't know...
I'm waiting for Smitty's pics of his NOS 70 grill -- hopefully that will clear it up. Get a close up pic of the 70 grille, from that distance it looks like just the horizontal bars because your eyes only see the white or silver. when you get a close up you can see ALL of the bars in an eggcrate formation. the grilles are made to look different from that far away. that's what the paint does, but get CLOSE up and they are the same. Get a close-up like GeeEmm's, that will show it.
And if you get pics comparing the two get them from the same angles so that we are not trying to compare apples to oranges. comparison shots are not very good when taken at two totally different angles!! Nathan [This message has been edited by texnician01 (edited May 06, 2002).]

I agree with the apples to oranges. I wish I still had my old Longhorn, it had the original grill. While there is some verticle bars, there are not nearly as many of them. They form rectangles instead of squares.

i have to go alomng with the 69 & 70 grill is different i bought a 69 3rd owner i now its factory but i found a 70 grill and bought it just because of the diff .the 70 grill has fins that raise up about 1/16 inch. they are painted silver . the 69 is all crate and has no fins that raise up from the base of grill. longhorn i posed a pic of my truck.you helped me.they are now gone thanks to free photo-i.o well, you made a comment adout finnally seeing a real 70's grill i will try to post the pic .but there is a difference no dought about it.the last drawing of the two grills are correct .the 70 grill fins do come out some what it really cool.

FYI: The first pic longhornmail showed is of my '69 C20 (original grill). The pic I showed earlier is a different angle of the same grill.

I too would like to really see a good closeup pic of the mysterious '70 grill that has been talked about since one of the mags put that info (no pic) in an article a couple years ago. I have seen probably over one hundred of these (69-70) trucks & grills and never seen one of the "mystery" grills.

I too would like to see a good closeup pic of the '70 "mystery" grill that everyone started talking about a couple years ago when one of the mags ran a story claiming there was a difference (no pics). I have probably seen over a hundred of these year trucks and never seen the "mystery" grill.

I think you guys need to look at an original 69 and a original 70 really close, there are raised up areas on the 70's. If we are voting my vote is for the 69 grill, I think it looks more uniform and muscle carish.

ok, here goes, evidently my 69 grille has been changed in the past. but I found a 69 grille to look at. I'll give you the fact that the 69 grille has no raised bars. but I still say that they are the same as far as the spacing of the bars horizontal and vertical. you could take a 69 grille mask off the pattern of a 70 grille on it, slap on some silver paint and you'd still get a grille that looks like a 70. so in part I was wrong and I apologize for that.
