Weird stuff happens, any theories?

Friday night we took our truck to the local Dairy Queen cruise in. I normally don't open the hood at these kinds of things, but somebody asked me a question about the engine, and I left the hood open after that.

At the end of the evening I started the truck to leave, and it was running really rough. It died a couple of times when I put it in gear, which isn't normal. When I got to the stop sign at the parking lot exit, I noticed that I had no power brakes. Something was up, so I pulled over and popped the hood. I saw that the cover to the brake booster check valve was missing (see pic), and then found it sitting on the battery.

I limped the truck back to a store to get some super glue, and once I glued the cover back onto the check valve, all was well.

What the heck? Any theories on how this happens? I know one possibility is that someone messed with it, but that seems like a stretch. Maybe it fell off, then the air from the fan blew it around the engine compartment and it landed on the battery when I shut the engine off? Other ideas?

In any case, not impressed with the quality of this check valve...

Re: Weird stuff happens, any theories?

When I bought a CPP booster and master for my 64 impala ss, the check valve was bad and didn't allow vacuum into the booster. So I am not surprised.

Sure , It fell off then blew around your engine compartment and mysterically landed right up front on your battery ? You may want to buy a lottery ticket ...

Either intentional or perhaps some doofus was touching stuff they should not have and popped the piece off. Got concerned, put it on your battery, and fled the area.

Any way you look at it someone had their booger pickers where they should not have been.

I call little things like this Gremlins. Or when it's my kids I say it was Mr. Nobody... Good job getting it working again, I hope it doesn't happen again!

Yup. Like when you see a monkey running around grinning and doing something he shouldn't, and all his teeth are shining like he thinks he's being funny, but it isn't.

Re: Weird stuff happens, any theories?

Some dip shiite adjusted my carbs for my one night I left my bike out. Will I ever prove that????

Not in a million light years, Mr. Spock.

Did the earths magnetic field line up with the sun and moon exactly that evening and some kind of phenomenon turn the screws magnetically??

Monkeyshines some say, some unknown with a monkey wrench I say.

There is a chain on my hood.
