Re: Rear end identification.

Doesn’t really look like a 7.5 but pics throwing me off. Thought maybe Jeep but says GM right on it. What’s the bolt pattern? Shock spring mounts?

Re: Rear end identification.

Take the cover off. Check out the numbers on the ring gear. Take tape measure and measure. Be careful not to get your hands dirty.

Re: Rear end identification.

It’s 7.5/7.625”. A 88 will have drum brakes. A 98 will have disc brakes.

The 8.5/8.625” came equipped on 4.3 5 speed equipped s10 an blazers. They also came on all ZR2 models. The axle tubes are necked down and very easy to identify.

There’s 2wd, then 4wd is 4 inches wider, and zr2 is 4 more inches wider(8 inches wider than 2wd)

it is a drum brake 89 ish blazer rear 3.42 gears drum brakes.
i measured 59 inches wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. which is exactly 3" narrower than the original in my 51 GMC.
the truck currently has 4" back spacing 6 lug wheels. . i have purchased the same wheel (US wheel from Summit) that has 2 1/2 inch back spacing. my calculation (Math not strong point) puts the tire centerline in the exact same place.

my engine is a 283 final overdrive ratio .76
with the current tires 235 70 15 being 28" tire puts and RPM of 1871 at 60 mph.
i bought shorter wider tires. 245 60 15 being 26.6" puts RPM at 1970 at 60 mph
i am anxious to find out if the 283 will like this low of RPM time will tell.
worst case is dont use OD until over 70 mph. 2298 mph
the 283 my be very happy at 60 mph in 4th gear 1:1 is 2592
currently 52 is 2565 rpm
