need electrical help please

i have a 68 short step 327 auto. i started my truck leaving work today. The starter stayed engaged (its a new rebuilt starter only about 60 days old.) so i shut the truck off and tried it again with the same result. this time with smoke coming from under the dash. The smoke was coming from the ign. switch. I didnt have much time to troubleshoot much more. I'm going to make the 30 mile drive back tonight to look at closer. Any ideas anyone?

I believe it is your ignition switch. You should be able to buy it at you local parts store. I had the same thing happen to me but havent taken the time to change it yet. I have the new switch in the garage I might do it this weekend. Seems like it's a little bit of a project.

i would also say ign switch ,or starter solenoid , unless you have wires that are shorted together...

yep dont think your ignition switch is springing back off of the start position inside the tumbler. definitely grab a new one, not that bad to put in.

THANK YOU ALL!!!! towed the truck home and just to see what it would do i tried to start it after about 30 seconds of running the starter engaged on its own. I did check all wires none of them are shorted together. I will get a ign. switch tomorrow.
