Headers?

Is there any companies that make headers to fit a 1961 Chevy P/U Small block Automatic with a torsion bar front suspension?

Re: Headers?

Speedway Motors has Ram Horn, shorties, three quarter length. I used shorties. See page three of build for pictures or 64 header questions posted today.

64 header post did not have any relevant information. Is your truck torsion bar? What style and brand of header did you use?

I used Patriots shorties. For now the torsion bars are in. Drops down like rams and comes together at X and back.

Re: Headers?

The Hedman #69260's work well in the '63-'66's and I think they would work in the '60-'62's as well. But then again I have not installed them in a '60-'62.

Re: Headers?

Got side tracked! So anything short or Mid length should work. Long tubes drag if you plan on a drop. I like the Speedway Rams myself. I tried to get a pair so I could run regular plugs but with the big MSD Boots I am running the short plugs. Routing is the same it is just where your collector ends up. My ram to headers switch was pretty close where the pipes were. Did have to cut side pipes off... sound byte on build page. Drove around for month like that. Cop was posted up at the under pass doing speed check on a motorcycle, just shook his head, 25mph in second revved up!
By the way, my original 283 was front mount now has 72 engine mounts and still clears.

The Hedman foot notes say that header will not work with torsion bars. The truck that the headers will be for is a torsion bar front suspension.

Do you have any pictures of your headers in the collector area?

Re: Headers?

Im using block huggers on my 61 with torsion bars with no issues. The ram horns pictured above should be the same.

Re: Headers?

I'm leaning toward the block hugger style because my truck is a 4x4 and I don't want to see collectors, flanges and the like. Plus, unless you spend the money on ball flanges they will inevitably leak, and there are few things in life I hate more than some old truck driving around with an exhaust tick.

Re: Headers?

Does anyone else have experience with headers on a torsion bar front suspension 61 pick-up?
