1959 chevy apache original paint scheme

Good day,

One of the trucks we have has gotta go up for sale, 59 chev swb, big window, original v8 truck. We are going to get it painted the original tartan turquoise. In some places online that colour seems a bit more blue (preferred and what is currently on the truck in certain areas when you take some grey paint off) and other places it looks more green. A simple google search of that colour on that truck brings up both the green and blue tints. Which one is it?

Also, I have a question as to the Bombay ivory/white that goes around the grill. Is only the inner lip of the grille surround white, or does the white continue in further? In the one pic, the lower half of the truck is actually white, so is that why the white continues further in behind the grille? If we only paint that inner lip, what colour does the rest get painted behind the grille, black or the colour of the truck?

Thanks for your help.

This is Tartan Turquois
http://www.paintscratch.com/touch_up...27-(1959).html
The trucks above are green and blue

Yours may look lighter or darker but remember its 60 years old even under other paint it will still change color

The grille surround came in black or white depending on the paint options. If I can find my dealer data book for 59 I'll see what your options were.

I think two tones were white and solid colors were white edging and black behind the grille unless it had the custom cab option with the chrome trim then it would have been all white. just like above in the pictures

On my truck the grill was ivory and the reveal around the grill was also white. As shown in the green truck (first post on left). My truck is Dawn Blue.

Divine, can you send me a pic of that truck please?

The trucks id plate says tartan turquoise, but the paint on the firewall looks to be more blue than the paint chip reference that was provided in this thread. When I look at an original paint chip sheet, it seems to match, but that paint chip seems to be a more blue tint.

when I google 59 chevy apache I get two colours that come up. The green tint id say looks more like a turquoise, but the blue I prefer, and actually looks more like whats on the firewall. Googling tartan turquoise actually brings up more pics of the blue type paint.

any guidance as to what is what? I don't want to tell them to paint tartan turquoise and end up with the green when I was actually hoping for the blue tint.

Re: 1959 chevy apache original paint scheme

Did some more reading.... apparently the green tint is the tartan turquoise from 1957, which was put on that truck rather than the original 1959 tartan turquoise because they preferred the tint of the 1957 version.

seems like the paint chip referred to in this thread is more of the 1957 shade.

Indian Turquoise shows up as a more blue tint from '57.

In '59 the blue shade appears to be named Tampico Turquoise.

Re: 1959 chevy apache original paint scheme

Took some more paint off the truck last night and got down to some original paint on the fender... definitely a blue tint like the one shown in that earlier pic.

Best place to get a paint sample is the firewall. Paint on the fender will have been exposed to UV light which can change the color of the pigment(s).

Behind the battery box, voltage regulator or hood hinge.

You may be looking for Tampico Turquoise.
http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcod...r=1959&rows=50
Every reference for the various turquoise colors seems to have it's own shades. On some sights, the tampico and tartan have the same paint codes. I like the one that's more blue also.
