changing a 4wd rear axle to 2wd

My '80 C10 has a rear end assy. from an '86 truck (3.08 gear, 10bolt). I'd like to change to a 3.42 rear, but 2wd's with that ratio are scarce here in N.E. On the other hand, a 4wd rear with that ratio is quite common. Other than axles (6 lug vs. 5 lug), are there any other differences that would prohibit using a 4wd rear in a 2wd truck?

Re: changing a 4wd rear axle to 2wd

Ive done it before. Swapped a 410, 6lug, 12 bolt, from a 75 blazer in to my 2wd 5 lug 73 chevy. I swapped my 5 lug backing plates, brakes, drums and shafts into the 6lug housing. Spring perches were the same.
It was stupid simple, I didn't even have to bleed the brakes as I left all the brake lines connected and just strapped the backing plates to the frame while I swapped the housings. Its a lot easier than properly swapping gears
