Changed distributor won't start

92 gmc 3500 tbi 454 4l80e tranny. I replaced the distributor this afternoon. Brought number 1 to tdc. Wired according to the firing order then it blew flames out the throttle body. So I done the process over and over again. To no avail. What the Crap is going on. Please help. I'm aggravated with this thing. Thanks and GOD BLESS

Re: Changed distributor won't start

number 1 to TDC on compression stroke?

not trying to condescend but it comes up to TDC twice, compression and exhaust.. if you haven't verified this, easy way is to remove number 1 plug and bar the engine over until it's close to the mark and put your finger over plug hole.. it will push your finger off when it's on compression.. line your balancer mark to zero on the scale and make sure rotor is pointing to wherever number one is on the cap.. firing order in distributor rotation direction for the rest of the wires and should make smoke.. this is referred to static timing to zero.. may not lay rubber but should start and run level.. use a timing light to advance to spec if you have one or to your preference..

good luck and keep us posted!

Re: Changed distributor won't start

Just curious why you changed the distributor?

FYI, It's easier to put some marks on the firewall where the rotor is pointed, and where the distributor housing is oriented. Then, just put the new distributor in the exact same orientation as the old one was. It should start right up, then disconnect the timing wire, and adjust timing.

I only do the TDC method if the engine is turned over without the distributor installed.
