Anyone painted por engine enamel over ceramic or previously painted surfaces?

The intake I want to use on my 327 was ceramic coated by the po. I am painting my fresh rebuild 327 with por 15 orange engine enamel. Everything else is bare metal. My engine guy says he cant strip it off. Was wondering if the paint will stick if I scuff it well or should I strip it down to metal as well.

Re: Anyone painted por engine enamel over ceramic or previously painted surfaces?

I wouldn't expect it to work out well with scuffing it with all those nooks and crannies. It'd sandblast it off and pressure wash the crap out of it to get all sand gone. I don't think there is anything to chemically etch the ceramic. I think stripping will make a mess... and it would require grinding through to get under it. I'm surprised your engine guy didn't suggest glass beading. That would seem to be the best way to "scuff" and go over the solid foundation of the ceramic. I think I'd do that over attempting to sandblast. But maybe sandblasting at lower pressure would be the thing to do.
