454 rear main cap chipped
I recently got a used long block 454(14015445 block) . I took it apart today.
Engine is .020 over in cylinders. Crank and mains are std. in size. Unfortunately, I discovered a chip; piece missing on rear main cap on the outside of the hole where the oil pump shaft passes through (see pictures) Plan is to have block machined for new pistons, mains line honed and crank turned or resized. Question is....if I can find another rear main cap will it work having the mains honed or line bored ? Hung up on the never get caps in different areas when reassembling. |

Re: 454 rear main cap chipped
That is not uncommon. I would just smooth it up with a die grinder or dremel and run it.
