For those who visit the 67-72 C10 section of the forum, you'll know I don't know much about the K series of Chevy trucks. Not doing badly on the C10s, but that's where my knowledge seems to stop.

As I recently picked up a 72 SWB K10 cab (stuck on a LWB C10 frame), I was checking out the 72 brochure for some basic info (I've really only owned 69-70 C10s for some reason).

Is it true a 402 wasn't an option in a SWB K10? The brochure seems to say so. Seems a little weird but thought I'd check.

Also it appears the K trucks wouldn't come with a TH400?

My recollection from back then is that the 350 was the biggest engine in the four wheel drive models, and the TH350 was the only automatic that you could get. SWB, LWB, K10, K20 didn't matter much. My mom bought a 1971 and I bought a 1973.

I remember a few years later when I went to work for the dealer that it was a pretty big deal when they offered the 400 small block in the 4wds. I think that might have gotten you the TH400 but I'm not sure.

No big blocks in 67-72 4x4s. It is a farely common swap though!

Big block motors in GM 4x4's started 1975 (454ci), back by a Turbo 400 with a NP 205 transfer case.

67-72 4x4 frames are not wide enough in the front to sit a big block between 'em comfortably. More than likely there will be some frame trimming where the exhaust manifolds/exhaust starts down and slides under the cab.

I'm not remembering that, but you could be right. I'm guessing the 454 was only available in K30 and we didn't sell many of those. I worked for a dealer 1974/1975.

Ugh. I'd rather not have to chop up the frame. Well, perhaps a strongly built 350 is in order!
