Help replacing 64 c10 cab support

Hi guys!

I need to replace my rear cab support on my 64 c10. I have bought the replacements from two different companies, however, they seem much bigger than the original one.
Do I need to cut this one down to fit?

See photo
Any direction to a previous thread or video would certainly be appreciated!

Thanks

When I was window shopping for parts, it seemed to me that some are -replacement- supports, and others -attach-over-your-existing- supports.

But I could be wrong.

Re: Help replacing 64 c10 cab support

Thanks SkinnyG!

Yeah, I have been assured by the two companies Ive bought these from, that they are replacements and not slip-ons.
But, the smaller ends of these are a good half inch wider than my original.
I have yet to find a detailed video or picture of replacing one.
I have read where people say they bought replacements and they go right in.

Ive never replaced one and have no idea if these two items are correct or not.

Thanks
Larry

I did not watch the whole video to see if it is covered in this one, but this guy does very good work and shows the steps necessary.

Re: Help replacing 64 c10 cab support

Thanks CaptainFab!

Ive watch a lot of Gibson63 vids. He does do good work, BTW, the truck he is working on in this video is just like mine, color and all, lol.

I think I see the problem after watching this video. My cab support was bad all the way to past the center support. In fact, I had to replace the center support.
He cut and replaced the rear cab support before the center cab support. I may have to modify the rear support to go all the way to the cross support!

Thanks again! I guess I was expecting a replacement would go exactly back in. The front cab support fit exact, I did have to cut just a bit, but all the demensions were exact!

Thanks Larry

Re: Help replacing 64 c10 cab support

lhlyda, the ones that I got from Counterpart approximate the size of the originals, BUT, where it joins up with the cross member that runs along the back of the cab, the part indeed is larger at that point. I considered this a good thing as it is much easier to fit this portion over top of the cross member (rather than try to fit it within the cross member like the original).

Re: Help replacing 64 c10 cab support

Thanks 66C10LB!

I have had lroblems getting info, even from the folks I bought these from. The best I can tell, they are all made large to "cut and paste" as you need it. I ended up, cutting the small end off, splitting ot, and butting it up and welding it. Then, I took what was left and fabricated one out of it. Not pretty, but solid. I just wish someone would show how these are suppose to be used for newbies like me! Lol.

Thanks again for ur time in responding, your information is very helpful! It lets me know, that what Im dealing with is what is being sold out there.

One company came back and told me it was a made bigger to cut and apply to where you need it. I asked them, why are they selling one that is a slip on and one as a "replacement" ? I havent heard beck from them. Lol

Thanks
Larry
