Scotts Hotrods Crossmember Install

So after going between Scotts and Porterbuilt I found a really good deal on a scotts so here we go.....

First is to remove your old crossmember. I found it easier to support the frame rails under the cab. I left the wheels on the vehicle. I removed the four bolts that hold the sides of the member on. Then used a jack to support the crossmember.

I found it way easier to hit the six bolts the mount the member to the lower frame with pb blaster and then use an impact to loosen the 6 bolts. After the 6 bolts are loose use a cut of wheel and cut them off. Then lower the whole thing out and put ti to the side.

I feel that when installing a 4000 dollar crossmemebr you should clean the inside and outside of all mounting points.

spent more time cleaning than it took to drop the oldmember

I have the member already assembled in my family/ all my new parts room. Being that i bought it used I got it assembled but im pretty sure it comes this way. I say it was used but its never seen anything but mock up and then the whole project was sold.

Take your new Scotts and raise upwards to your clean frame and install 2 bolts/nuts and also two bolts that go into the side of the crossmember.

Then you take your inner frame brackets and bolt in the 6 upper and lower bolts.

Then remove your steering column. And mount your wheels and tires.

And then let your results show

better final pictures when its day light. Now a few things that make this easier was having the front clip off and engine already out. It took a a day to put in but easily done in a weekend if you also had to remove the clip and engine.

great thread!! I'm researching an IFS for my 79 Blazer, and Scotts is being considered. I'm curious, where is the difference between the 67-72 and 73-91 frames? You were lucky to find a used (not really) one!! Good luck with the build!

Looks good in there! Glad it all worked out for you! I can't wait till mine is a rolling chassis at least again! Mine looks bare for now! Lol

I can tell you a few things.... my truck is a 64 and the scotts crosmember says 67-72 on it. I know that many people use 73-87 c10 parts on 64-72 trucks. If you look at your current crossmember it will have a few more bolts than mine does (think its one per side). Now as for the rear 63-72 are all most the same but from side to side your holes in the frame may be a little different. My bolt in KP six link is going to take me drilling a few extra holes that a 71 has that my 64 doesnt. Look for a Install for the 6 link next weekend.

your burb looks great, Justin was a great help when plannning the build! I just got really lucky and found one that had just been mocked up but never on the road used. Ive got a 63 burb im going to buy once i get a little more room. itl be on the ground also!

are you painting yours gm bahama blue? i had a slammed 95 sonoma that was the color of your rendering

I'm not quite sure. I've had a few renderings done so let's see what route I end up going.
