1969 International Scout 800 LS Swap

Picked this up a few years ago and it has now officially moved to my garage as a project last week. First things I am doing are putting the springs back under the axles and prepping the LS engine.

Re: 1969 International Scout 800 LS Swap

As a fellow IH owner I'll follow. Still undecided on the LS swap though as I like the heavyweight IH engines for some reason. Looks like a clean 800 to start with.

Thanks. I want reliability so decided on this route. Here is a picture of it cleaned up and the engine ready to go in. Working on the suspension right now and gas tank next.

Re: 1969 International Scout 800 LS Swap

Very nice..!!..for a Scout, that one looks very solid
The LS will make it a rocket ship
What's the plan for a trans and transfer case?

Definitely should have some power. I put a BTR Stage 2 cam and new valve springs since I was resealing everything. 4L60E with NP241C transfer case.

Made some progress on the gas door and fuel tank. I need to find the correct hoses. I having been rolling the dice with Amazon with no luck since they dont have measurements listed. I did get one that had the right sizes hoses but not long enough. I have my old engine sold so I need to get it out this weekend.

Re: 1969 International Scout 800 LS Swap

Might look here.i think this is where I've found one before.
https://www.fillernecksupply.com/fue...hose-straight/
I found a place a couple yrs ago that has all kinds of fuel hoses when I was at work and have it saved on my work computer...I had to have a hose I couldnt find anywhere for my C30 when I built the bed for it..they had what I needed.. I "think" the site above is it... I'll verify tonite when I'm at work..

Re: 1969 International Scout 800 LS Swap

Got the radiator mounted. Found an LS Swap Radiator from a 68 impala and had the move the bracket to the front. Also made an adapter plate and used an early 70's chevy truck power booster. Next up is the Nissan Power steering box and the steering column. Then I can start thinking about mounting the engine.

Re: 1969 International Scout 800 LS Swap

Not a Scout LS swap but my 98 Wrangler LS6/4L60E I used a Rubicon 241R TC due to its wider TC chain and 4:1 low range. If you don't have it I would add a wide chain kit and SYE to the 241. Also add a CV drive shaft. Maybe also add 1350 u-joints to the drive shaft and axle yoke.
Man I like spending other peoples money. LOL.
Good luck with your project.

Do you think it needs the wider chain with the transfer case being from a full size Chevy suburban? It has a CV driveshaft already that I was going to see if I can reuse. This was originally a V8 scout scout so I am thinking I can reuse most parts but any recommendations are appreciated as this is my first 4x4 build. Too be honest the front end is a mess and really needs to be thought out. I need to figure out the power steering. Scout II steering boxes are not really available.

Tacked in the motor mounts today. Next up is building the transmission mount then taking it all back out to finish welding up and painting.

Re: 1969 International Scout 800 LS Swap

Good question on the 241. That I don't know.
In the back of my TJ I'm running a 8.8 out of a mid 90's explorer. 4.10 gears with posi. Stock TJ front axle with 4:10 gears. I haven't broke it but my TJ is a mall crawler.
Tons of used TJ/JK parts out there for swapping into what ever.
I'm wondering if a TJ power steering box might be a some what bolt on?

I figured out the steering box issue. I ordered a right hand drive Newer JK steering box aka Postal Jeep Wrangler JK. When I pull the engine I am going to build the mount for that.

Re: 1969 International Scout 800 LS Swap

Getting closer. Have the transmission mount ready to tack together but need to put the transfer case on to make sure the driveshaft will clear it.
