Lowering Kit & Wheels/Tires

My uncle has a 1993 SWB that he wants to do a 4/6 drop kit on & get some nice looking wheels & tires. Can some of you guys recommend a good kit & what size wheels & tires would look best? Pics of some 4/6 lowered trucks would be nice too to see what it looks like. So if you guys have any please post hem up.

Knowing my extremely finicky tastes when it comes to wheels, it can be really hard to pick a good wheel design for someone else. I suggest sitting your uncle down and browsing through the pic threads here and looking at all the trucks to see if there's something that really catches his eye.

This is even more true when it comes to back-spacing for different wheels. Cheap-ish wheels won't have nearly the same BS opttions as spec'd made wheels (so, not all similarly sized wheels are equal).

Here's another pic of the same murf87 truck, taken before the TT's...as stated in his post that I mentioned above.

But, there are almost as many kinds of wheels as there are people...meaning a bunch. Do your homework and research. The wrong off-set, or width, or diameter, plus a tire that aggravates whatever isn't correct for your vehicle, makes for an unpleasant driving experience.

He likes the looks of some rally wheels on a dropped truck like the one posted above. Where is a good place to shop for some rally wheels? Also what size are they? 15x8?

Those are commonly referred to as 'Sport' or '454SS' wheels which are steel/chrome. If I recall, they're 7" wide. Truck 'Ralleys' were common on 73-87 trucks & thru 91 Burbs. They're the plain painted steel wheels & avail in 15x6.5, 7, & 8" widths from the factory as well as a 10" wide version available from the aftermarket.

Correct. They're 15x7s. There are some out there who swear up and down that the actual 454SS got 8" wide versions of these wheels while all the others were 7", but this is not true. These wheels were ALL 7" wide. It's just that the 454SS ran 275/60 tires while all other trucks got 235/75s.

I would search For Sale postings on forums like this one, search Craigslist, eBay or even your local salvage yards. $200-300 for a set of 4 without tires and with or without center caps is a pretty fair price. I paid $250 for mine about 10 years ago without tires or centers. I paid another $25 for some brand new chrome centers on eBay.

I decided to change it up a bit on the Suburban and run some black centers like the early 454SS (though mine have the standard gold bowtie instead of the red outline bowtie like the SS). I also have a set of the chrome centers if I want to go that way too.

here's mine with a 4/6 drop. the wheels dont match front to back but the wheels & tires are 15x10's with 295/50r15's and 15x7's with 225/60r15's

hahaha thanks, it will eventually all be the same shade of black (satin) and hopefully have matching wheels as well as limo tinted windows

also the thought of hiding some red and blue flashing lights behind the grille, and adding strobes in the tail lights/head lightsas well as a siren and pa has crossed my mind a few times i also want to put a cowl hood on it to help with the hotrod look
