64 C20 ignition swap withOUT key, is it possible?

Hey all, it's time to get the interior of my 64 refurbished. I've lost the keys in the two years it's been sitting. How am I going to remove the ignition switch and replace it with the new set I got at the Truck Shop here in Orange. Can anyone provide some guidance? Thanks in advance.

Pomona swap meet this Sunday, 8-13-2017!!!

Remove the wires one at a time and transfer them to a new switch. If your trying to change the Key'd section of the switch without a key - good luck.

Re: 64 C20 ignition swap withOUT key, is it possible?

I ended up buying a whole new ignition switch when I swapped keys, I think it was around $15 for the new switch.

My truck didn't have the right key with it when I bought it and I tried a few different options of getting the lock cylinder out but nothing worked for me. New switch and new lock cylinder and away I went

So, drill it out, gingerly, and go from there installing new switch and mount in place?

As you know without the key you cannot remove the cylinder. Sometimes you get lucky and the door handle lock will still match the ignition key. You can take your door handle to a locksmith and have if make a key , hoping they still match. You might ask lockdoc on this forum . He probably has the best answer.

Over the years I have accumulated few hundred original keys from salvage trucks. Usually I can find one that works but takes a lot of time. Good luck.

I appreciate you googling I was hoping to do business with someone from the boards. It's always my first choice. If no one responds, I'll use a stranger. Thanks. TV
