Re: Project '57 2WD

Truck is aligned. all i'm waiting on now is an air filter. Runs really good. handles well, but needs a sway bar. What are yall putting on a mustang II clip for a sway bar??

the 5.3 is a screamer. Doesn't quite live up to all the hype i made it up to be in my head, but its still a great motor. Dad says its "scary"... (but i think hes just old...) The ladder bars really hook it well. tires spin a little bit off the line but then it hooks and your gone. it is not squirly, tracks very straight. it does not have the low end torque of my '38 with the lt1 vette motor. i do believe my chrysler will out run it. Dad and i will get out on the road one day and get back to yall on that.

All and all it will be a great cruiser. My girlfriend has a 2010 v6 mustang, and this will out run it. if your running a 5.3 challenge a new v8 muscle car at your own risk. i've hauled it to town 3 times this last week and every time i stopped somewhere someone (usually 3 to 5 or more) people would ask me about it and compliment it. Seems to attract more attenetion than when it was 4x4. i'm ready to be driving it instead of working on it for sure.

Re: Project '57 2WD

What gears are each of your cars running? Is your LT1 a vette version or one of the less powerful versions? Just curious...My father in law has a 37 Ford with a 260hp Impala SS LT1 auto and a 62 Vette with a 305hp LS1 6 speed, both with highway gears. There is NO CHANCE IN HELL that the LT1 could ever outrun that Vette! It would be a massacre to the 12th power. The 5.3 is closer in design to the LS but at 285hp a little closer to the LT in power. I guess I was hoping that when my 5.3 gets running it would be more like the Vette than the 37. It's going to be awhile before I can find out. It ticks me off that my 06 Ram has 60hp more than my "hot rod" truck but I hope the weight makes a big difference.

Re: Project '57 2WD

Both of my rigs are running Ford 8.8 rear ends with 3.73 gears. The Lt1 is rated at 295 or 305 (I forget) And the 5.3 is rated at 315. I approximate both rigs to weigh close to the same, however the pickup may outweigh the car by a couple hundred lbs. Which is probably where the difference is. But the ls just don't seem to have the torque of the lt

Re: Project '57 2WD

I will try to get that done. I really like the 5.3 and I need to make a video because you need to hear this thing, it sounds great. I got a job, I've never worked for the MAN before. This punchin a time card sucks. I've always worked for my self, but I was at the Dodge dealership about a month ago, and the service manager has be after me to come wrench for him for a couple years now. Well his diesel tech retired and he was in a bad bind, so he made me an offer that I couldn't turn down. Well to say the least my working at the shop at the house has slowed way down. Grandpa pulled in a 54 3window that he thinks I'm going to biuld for him, ha! He said don't worry you have all winter to get it done. LOL

Your truck is over the top, I love it.

I totally agree with you about the 5.3. I don't have one in my truck but my daily driver is an 02 Suburban with a 5.3. Runs great and gets excellent mileage. If I ever replace the 350 in my truck that's what I'll put in it.

Here's a sneak peak of my Epic Snap-On tool box. 76"x30"x48" of red (expensive) paint and stainless. I've gotter mostly full of snap-on tools now. A few sets of Matco ratchet wrenches are the only exceptions....

Re: Project '57 2WD

GREAT 57! I've had a couple AD's and a 55 and a 56. When I started building my 57, I was seriously considering putting an egg crate grille (56/56) in it because I like them so much. But those 57 grilles are awesome too. I'm glad I stuck with my gut decision.

Re: Project '57 2WD

the tire size is 265x16 on 8" M/T rims at this time. I did have 315's on 10" rims with 4 more inchs of lift at one time. Yes I liked the way it looked back then...BUT it runs and drives SO much better now.
