Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs

I have seen this truck for a couple years, it is in Colorado and for a crew it is very restorable, I just cant stomach the $6K.

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs

Yep, that truck has been for sale for at least 2+ years that I know of. It looks like you could make a great build out if.

6k is just too much. You would think that after posting all over the western US on craigslist and not getting it sold he would took a better look at his pricing.

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs

He had a couple others and I think he sold those and kept this one for him to build, but has as you said, has had it for sale for a couple years.

I would love to have it and to build it, but just cant justify the $6K starting price.

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs

hey texastim, was going through some old papers that had been boxed up, and actually found the old ebay listing I had mentioned earlier. this truck at one time had been in minnesota. if I can figure out how to copy and post this pic, I will. it came from a huge field of 50's & 60's vehicles. I could tell it was same truck because of the same front damage and the worn paint and lettering on the doors. guess I won't need to keep wondering if the truck is still for sale. if you ever need to get rid of it I have a spot for it. still.....cool truck DT

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs

GM never made them, but were farmed to coach builders as they were termed on orders.
they were all built with factory supplied parts. most doors were modified at the coach builders to suit their application I guess as there were quite a variance in them

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs

The owner built it using two cabs, very custom and very nice, it was in several magazines IIRC, what do you want to know, I dont think the owner is a member here though.

thanks for the info Clyde65. thats the same thing that everyone tells me but i want the challenge well see how it comes out. i already bought the other cab now its just a matter of tearing down before i start welding stuff together. when it is done it should look just like that. except it will be on a 3/4 ton frame.

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs

In my opinion, you would be better off starting with a Suburban or Panel. That is what I would do after having seen all the issues those that have started to build a crewcab from 2 cabs, have had.

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs

thats a nice looking truck Clyde65. i like the custom back window it looks sic

Captianfab
i have been told to start off with a panel. but i think the only thing i will need from a panel would be the floor and the roof skin. but im going to try building it with the 2 cabs then either buy a panel roof skin or creating it from sheet metal. the floor will be also created using sheet metal.

jonzcustomshop
i will keep a look out to see if i can find anymore pics form that truck on here.

Vic45, that is my dad's crew, the cab was originally a wrecker, sold, repoed and sold again within 100 miles of where it calls home.

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs

This is my 65 crew cab I did 4 or 5 years ago, It's on a 2000 Chevy 1/2 ton. I used the floor pan and dash. That gives me the anti lock brakes,a good AC and etc.

Thats pretty cool! I'd like to see more. Did you make the box from a suburban? And is the rear wheel well opening from a front fender? And a front bumper on the back? Almost looks like a pushmepullyou! (Don't get me wrong, I like it) Judging by the roof line, you started with a suburban or panel truck?

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs

Hi, The truck was built using a Suburban roof section and the suburban rear fenders and tailgate. the suburban used the front bumper on the rear as did I.
the rear doors are fiberglass from molds I made from the front doors. I used rear fender patch panels to raise the rear openings. the frame, firewall, dash, floor pan,seats,carpet,5.3/46le are from the 2000 Chevy.

Re: 60-66 crew cabs or extended cabs

not a fetish just think 4 doors are better with grand-kids. the 65 took about 2 months to build. the 67 a little over a month on the first build then I found I made the stretch about 6" short for my son in-law so I shortened the bed 6" and made the cab and doors 6" longer. That only took a week and a half. I retired 6 years ago so I have the time to have fun building the way l want.
