Why is the part that I outlined in red left and not removed?

The material left behind doesn't prohibit any function so it's just an asthetic deal. Remove it if it bothers you. If it doesn't, no reason to do the extra work.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Are those spot welds, and if drilled out would the whole assembly just pop off? I'm thinking that might be easier than cutting through the whole thing.

No, haven't yet but I'm getting close to the point where I might.

One question though, what about the bump stop? It seems like you'd still want a bump-stop to limit the control arm travel. Otherwise some components would mash together that shouldn't, right?

Did some searching here and it seems that the answer is that if you cut the bump stops out, you run the risk of scrubbing your tires on the inner fender. Cutting them down does give you more travel but the amount of acceptable travel depends on:

- Your wheel and tire size
- Do you still have inner fenders
- How low can you drop assuming airbag failure (if you are bagging it) and still drive

Also I came across posts in which people verified that you can just drill the spot welds with 1/2" bit and then chisel the whole thing off.

Re: trimming lower control arms

Ok so I did drill through the spot welds with a 1/2" bit and then just beat the bracket off entirely with a BFG. Took all of 5 minutes!

Re: trimming lower control arms

Sorry to bring up an old thread...

I'm about to install Belltech 3" drop spindles. Stock 15x6 wheels.

I noticed in this thread that the bump stops are cut off. Following this article in HR Mag, they left the bump stops.
https://www.hotrod.com/articles/low-...ody-chevy-c10/

I installed Moog 6454 with one coil cut off. It brought the front down 1.5", and it looks like there is still adequate bump stop clearance.

For the guys that cut off the bumpstops, did you put anything else there, or leave them off? I'm thinking about trimming it off, then mounting a bolt-on bump stop.

This is on a squarebody...
