C-5 Model's(blazer)

I thought they only made the k series no c series for blazer's?? I know they made 2wd blazer's but alway's thought they were a k model also???

That's true. K5 blazers are both 2 and 4 wheel drive. No such thing as a C5. Doesn't make sense to me. They should have stayed with their method.

That's what I alway's thought but someone on the this forum said c-5 and I thought what I never heard a c-5 thank's for the info..

Yes there is a such thing fellas. The C is for two wheel drive. GM just never made the emblems - that's all. If you owned a 2 wd you would understand the importance of knowing the difference.

Example - You walk into a junk yard and ask for a rear axle for a K5 Blazer because there is no difference . . . Guess what? You just bought yourself a 6 lug used axle??? It is important to know the difference.

Just like the pick up's. They have C and K. C - 2 wd and K - 4x4.

then why does my blazer have k5 emblems? atually all three of the 2wd blazers i have owned have had k5 emblems on them. To me that would make them K5s.

GM never used the term C5 for anything. K/5 and K-5 are just part of the model name used on the fender emblems (like Blazer, Chevelle, Camaro, etc.). Blazers are considered a 1/2 ton truck with a utility body, so the VIN designation is K10 or C10, just like a pickup.

Just the VIn will say define it as a C5 but the standard name is K/5.

Don't forget the K20. It was an obscure 3/4 ton thing for Suburbans and Diesel Blazers. I ran across that trying to get 3/4 ton suspension for my '72 K5. Nobody would mount 3/4 ton pickup or Suburban parts, though they DO FIT.

There was never a K20 Blazer, even with a diesel. All Blazers/Jimmys are 1/2 ton - K10 or C10.

That's the suspension I had. It was one of those obsure things like dealer codes for amublances and work trucks. Kinda like the old COPo option or something.

lol - you guys are nutts. C5 was in the VIN. Why the hostility feeling among you guys. It is just info . . . The C was the begining of the VIN that meant 2wd and if it reads K it is a 4x4 period!!! Why it came that way. I will give you guys and gals a goooood reason. Back in those days and those of you who are from that era can back this up . . . you walk into a dealer and order what you want . . . so why no C5 emblems here is why the never made the C5 until 1972 folks!!!!! 2500 were made. 1970 a little over 800 were ORDERED, 1971 a little under 1100 were ORDERED . . . it was never supposed to happen. Look into the history it is a RECREATIONAL VEH = Off Road. All articles that have to do with 2wd ever in a magazine were in 1972. So guys and gals if you have one appreciate it, and if you don't envy it . . . Check out some history at www.vintageblazer.com

ALL Blazers and Jimmys from 69-91 are K5's. Some just happen to be 2wd. That is not even correct. No K5's were built after 87 at ALL. They were V5's 88-91 but GM changed the designation to keep the the C and K with the round body trucks that started in 88.

GM did not use the designation of C with the Blazer.

Go into a junkyard and ask for 69-70 K5 rear axle and you will get 6 lug no matter if it was 2wd or 4wd. Couse it still won't be a bolt in because a 2wd K5 69-72 had coil rear springs and 4wd was leaf.

Hell, my orginial title for my blazer listed it as a station wagon. So did my orgiinal insurance for yrs on the policy it wasn't until the mid 80's when SUV's came that they changed it

My 75 Jimmy has been listed as "Sport Wagon", "wagon", and "Jimmy roadster" by State Farm and GA. My 79 Blazer was listed as a "K10 Blazer", "Sport wagon" with State farm and a K10 with GA.

Yep the 79 was listed as a pickup truck and that's after long fights with the insurance company. My Wife was ready to go kill the woman at the insurance office over that. Woman kept telling my Wife that somebody (implying us) put a K5 badge on it.

I then argued with the woman aout it after my wife had buldging veins on her forhead and said yes a Guy in Detroit randomly put that bagde on the side of the truck. I made them note in my files that it was a K5 not a K10 and let them print what ever they wanted on the insurance card.

As for insurance, my title and insurance says my two wheel is a VAN. If your title says it is a VAN, STATION WAGON, ETC. Your insurance better insure it at that. I had that problem as well. I will look into that for you fellas. There is an actual law that prohibits insurace companies from doing that.

But be careful guys and gals - YOU NEED TO CHECK YOUR VIN NUMBERS TOO, IF THAT (K) IS THERE AND YOU HAVE A 2WD

- YOU JUST BOUGHT YOURSELF A 4X4 CONVERTED . . . AND THAT IS WHY YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY IS CHARGING YOU 4X4 RATES!!!

note - 4X4's also are titled SW - station wagon, and UT - utility. Each state is different.

My aunt and my mom both have 02 RAV4's. Both are 2wd. Somehow my AUnts has been listed on the VIN as a 4wd. She has been fighting it for the two years she has owned the truck. (I use truckj loosely).

My 71 blazer is a true 4x4 it is listed as a station wagon my 1970 is listed as a truck. My 70 I am the 4 or 5th owner don't know the history. My 71 I have had for 24yrs and it came from the orginial owner the title said and still does station wagon
