72 4X4 rear drive shaft short bed

I have shortened a long bed and the drive shaft for long bed is the big tube question can I shorten the big tube and work fine for the short bed.

Yes, parts for the larger diameter (4.50" tube) drive shafts are expensive and, in some cases, obsolete. If the splines are worn it may be cheaper to have a complete shaft built.
