Completed the first major engine repair on my 69 c10

Bought my truck a few months ago, it has a 350 in it. After driving it for a bit I noticed it smoked pretty bad after I started it back up after a drive. I was losing a half gallon of water every 30 miles and it was blowing a lot of water in the recovery tank.
So I tore it down and found a cracked head. I ordered and installed a rebuilt set of heads from indy cylinder heads. They are cast iron heads with 64cc chambers and new 2.02 and 1.60 valves and Springs. While it was down I put a new double roller chain and a summit 1102 cam in it. And I managed to leave the oil pan on and replace the timing cover without a leak!!
Anyway, it all back together and running great. Sound good too. First time messing with a chevy engine. Grew up with mopars.

Good news! Sawlog,
I am glad your freshen up went well.
Maybe some one has "modded" the timing cover and ground the inner lip off.
most of the time you have to drop oil pan at least some amount to get the cover off.
No oil leaks are real cool describing what you have done!
All The Best, Dirk

I did have to take the first 4 bolts off each side to lower the front a bit. Just glad I didn't have to drop the whole thing.
Thanks

You don't need to remove the whole lip, just the ends cut at a 45 degree angle.
So Sawlog, how long did you do the break-in for and at what rpm?

2500 rpm for 20 minute or so. I had some break in lube in it too. Then I shut it off and changed oil and filter. I was just glad the thing fired up without having to crank the heck out of it.

When you break in the cam, is that at no load on the engine?
