Plow setup?

I have a 72 K10 longbed, 2.5" lift and 32's. I would like to be able to use the truck to plow a moderate-grade, 150 yard gravel driveway in Eastern WA every winter. Two questions:

(1) Is this a reasonable idea? The truck is very reliable, I am only concerned about plowing-specific issues.

(2) What do I need and where do I get it?

Thanks!

Re: Plow setup?

You can certainly do it. My DD & plow truck is a 79 GMC. You will need to fabricate plow mounts, the plow mfg's don't support trucks that old. You want the mount set up to push the plow level, so the higher the lift the lower the mount needs to drop below the truck frame. Mine isn't perfectly level, I wanted my mount tucked up as high as I could for summer driving.

I'd surf CL for an older plow setup or check with some of the local dealers.

Here's some pics of my mount, It only took slight mods to fit. I know your frame is different but same basic concept.

Re: Plow setup?

I have been using my 72 K20 for a long time. Bought it with possibly original 70s plow setup. Belt driven pump with the 2 levers in the cab.Ill put a load of sand in the bed for ballast. Skinny 235 tires. 1000' uphill driveway. This thing is unstoppable in the snow!! We had a couple of really bad winters here in the NE a few years back, glad I had this thing.

Re: Plow setup?

thanks guys. it sounds like the square body plow mounts usually work with some mods, but i am not sure how extensive.
