Re: upper trim clips

A lot of forum searching revealed over all positive feedback on double sided 3M tape. No pictures of any upper trim clips or the installation of... even with the trucks.

Re: upper trim clips

I'm rebuilding a 72 K20 now and drilled the necessary holes to use the metal clips like 70 and earlier trucks....the tape is awful and that on the lower trim on my K10 displaces the trim too far from the body - it looks bad.

Went through your thread. Extremely nice build you have there.

Where are you getting those metal clips?

Thanks! I believe the upper trim set clips came with the molding from Mar-K and for the lower NOS trim from Wes at Classic Heartbeat - http://www.classicheartbeat.com/ - he's a member here and a board vender, give him a call and he'll get you set up. Good luck!

Awesome, thanks for the link.

I bought this Blazer a few months ago and I after taking a closer look at the upper trim last night I see rubber stick on clips, screws (by the door hinges only), and two sided tape. Some of the places in the middle of a section of trim is really beginning to pull away from the body. Also, it should have been cleaned up, tweaked, and polished before putting it back on but I've found that the PO took MANY short cuts on this thing.

Also, I've never seen any other Blazers with the upper trim. Did they come with it? I'm starting to wonder if the PO just modified some truck trim and put it on this truck.

Re: upper trim clips

Nice looking Blazer! I believe the upper trim is an add-on by a PO. Anything on the SPID about "belt line molding"?

Re: upper trim clips

Thanks.

I don't have the original SPID. PO bought a blank one and filled it out by hand. Wrong, too, I might add.

Re: upper trim clips

I started a Blazer SPID thread to see what all options were placed on what all Blazers. I'm saying this because I'm curious if these ever had upper molding and if so a SPID that shows the RPO. The trim looks good.

Re: upper trim clips

I'll take some close up pics of the trim this afternoon and highlight the areas I'm dissatisfied with. I'd really like to remove it and have it polished and painted the right way. In the pic above it looks fine, but up close it really shows some problems.

I never thought about this, but I don't think upper trim was offered. I may be wrong though. I do like the look though

Re: upper trim clips

As you can see in these close up pics, the upper trim really has some issues. In the first two pics you can see how it dips down on the front fenders rather than following a straight line down the length of the Blazer. That bugs me a little.

In several spots on both sides of the rig the double sided tape is giving up.

You can see the one exposed screw at the front of the door trim piece. I hope to hell this was how the factory would have done it, had they did it.

In one or two spots it looks like there is a hidden screw, but it's a little loose.

Here is where I'm guessing the PO shortened upper trim from a pickup. I wouldn't imagine this being cut and spliced together from the factory.

It all shows well enough from a distance, but I really want to get the trim polish and painted, then correctly installed. Everything is so new that the upper trim in it's present condition sort of detracts from the whole thing. If nothing else, it bugs me.

Re: upper trim clips

Here's my take: PO installed the upper trim but didn't do too bad a job. The 2x stick tape is how 71-72 trim was affixed in some spots (unlike 70 and earlier) and the new tape is awful. That screw on the door pieces is correct, GM style. The splices on the rear segments are indeed how GM (and now aftermarket) made the trim. The rear piece on a pickup does not parallel the bed but slope very slightly downward. See my K20 build link in my signature for a factory example. Rear trim that is straight rather than sloping is a common oversight folks make when adding trim (the paint stripe was also sloped).

Re: upper trim clips

I appreciate your feedback. Sounds like my problem only lies with the roughness of the trim, and the bad tape.

Re: upper trim clips

Even with it's problems I do like the look, I think it looks great on the pick ups so this just is natural to me. I don't know why GM didn't think of it
