3.73 or no 3.73,that is the question

Ok, I have prices for my gear selection
$125 for new 3.73's
$275 for a new posi case
$50 for a new bearing/seal kit
$150 for install
____________
$600 total

My question is: Should Pay the extra $125 for the gears, or should I just leave it 3.07 and just have the posi put in?

Re: 3.73 or no 3.73,that is the question

Depends.

If you have an OD tranny, I'd use a 3.73.

If you have a non OD tranny like a th350 or th400 I'd use the 3.07 unless you haul trailers all the time or something.

My $0.02

I have a TH350 so, maybe I'll stay with the 3.07's.

Re: 3.73 or no 3.73,that is the question

Depends, do you like to buzz the motor? Remember that with standard sized tires (28-30" or so), 60 mph with 3.73's and a 1:1 final gear ratio is 3000 RPM...

Re: 3.73 or no 3.73,that is the question

If you want to win drag races 3.73.
If you want something with reasonable fuel economy (for our trucks that is) stick with the 3.07
