Anyone from Texas?

Hello, I have posted here before but here it goes again, also my apologies if this is the wrong forum perhaps a redirect? My name is Tony and i live in the rainy state of washington. I have come to the conclusion that i want to move to Texas, near/outside of Houston. I want to be able to go for a drive and not have to worry about how soon its gonna start raining again. Im a machinist, and also a welder/fabricator/painter (wyotech) and I also have refinery/construction experience. Anyone from the area and have any recommendation of a good small town to live? Anything like a 20-40 mile radius of Houston? Here are some pics of my current projects. Thanks All.

Re: Anyone from Texas?

Depending on where you want to work really dictates where you need to live. Houston is 65 miles wide so 20- 40 mile radius doesn't get you out of the city limits. It takes me 1.5 hrs to get to the refinery area from the west side of Houston. There are some real nice areas that have that small town feel but you have to pick a general area first before I could tell you if I'd live there or not.

Anywhere you choose will be nice, im Texas born an raised and wouldn't think of leaving.

P.S. it was 70 degrees outside today!

Re: Anyone from Texas?

I'm from Baytown, 15 min east of Houston. Houston is extremely diverse. Most of Sugarland, pearland are a little more open country. Pasadena is a little closer to downtown, a little suburbs style. Houston has cowboys, little Mexico, little china, raves, and chili-cook-offs. If you like high rises or country living, we got it. Or living in the gangster ghetto...we got that, too. (lol) Most of the refineries are on the east side, but it stretches all the way down south to Texas city which is about 45 min away from the city. All I can say is...welcome

Re: Anyone from Texas?

Before you move, are you interested in doing a couple patch panels behind the rear wheels on a '77 Sierra?

BTW I lived in Texas for 9 months and hated it.

Re: Anyone from Texas?

Thanks guys for the welcome and compliments. Ive been looking for that 70 degree weather! I like to keep my trucks detailed, and driving in the rain doesn't help. I would like to buy a place out in the country, the city wouldn't really suit me other than to work. Im thinking ill book a flight to texas, rent a car and start driving. What are the max temperatures in the summer months? Also, is it sticky/humid?

919cw313, do you live nearby? Im located in Ferndale, send me a pm.

Around 110 degrees. I think we had 60+ straight days with 100+ degree temps last summer. The humidity around the gulf is bad.

Re: Anyone from Texas?

i grew up in texas on the west end of fort worth. i lived down there for a while after i got out of the navy and there are plenty of oil and gas companies around there to keep you busy as well or just about anything else for that matter. its not near the size of houston and a little easier to get out of town. Me personally i cant stand the houston area i cringe just thinking of it lol.

Re: Anyone from Texas?

There are many areas of Texas that you can find that kind of work without being in the Houston area. Especially welding, machining and pipeline work. The gulf area can be pretty humid with it's own bouts of rain showers.

Re: Anyone from Texas?

I live North of Houston in Splendora. The summers are hot and humid, the winters either freezing cold or non existent. I've lived here my whole life and although it's not for everyone I like it here.

Re: Anyone from Texas?

im here in conroe....on the out skirts hwy 242...ive been in conroe for 5 yrs and love it so far, besides all the dang construction. we have a vast selection of food, stores, closeby malls, and the best part auto parts galore. in conroe off of 336 and 105 there are 3 junk yards within about 5 miles...auto parts stores everywhere, and downtown, damn good "REAL" mexican food. everything is close to home and we still live somewhat in the country.
