which 3 point seat belt did you use?

hi.

1957 3600.

original bench seat.

right now it has no seat belts of any kind. want to add something.

thinking of 3 point vs just lap
- as that is what I have in every other vehicle and like the safe feeling.

if you added a 3 point to your truck:

(1)
which brand/seller/model did you use?

(2)
did you go for retractable or manual adjustment? I was thinking manual as the footprint is smaller.

(3)
are you happy with them, or not, and why?

looking for first hand advice.

thanks

I took the 60/40 seats and belts out of a '96 gmc pickup, not finished yet.

Re: which 3 point seat belt did you use?

I got mine from seatbeltplant.com I used 2, 3 point retractable units and 1 lap belt unit for the center. Welded the pivots to the "B" pillar and the lower mounts to a cross brace re-enforced to the rear seat mount. Very happy with the operation and looks of the units. $180.70 to my door. Lots of options. I think I have some pictures in the later pages of my build thread.

retractable is better, wife put manual adjust in her 67 and wishes she did retractable. Pain adjusting for different drivers, passengers.

Re: which 3 point seat belt did you use?

thanks again for all of the feedback and good advice.

so, I ordered and received the juliano's 3 point retractable belt for bench seat (they have a bucket seat version). I got it in black - 2 sets. one for driver; one for passenger.

I have not installed it yet, but initially reaction is that this is very high quality. parts are truly industrial strength.

hardest part (at least for me) will be to attach one of the 3 points to the 'b' pillar. there are some threads on the net on it, but, I have yet to try it - and will take my time.

the other 2 attach points in the floor seem simple enough and I have already checked them out and just need to drill the holes.

I will take pics as I get them in.

really looking forward to have a 3 point seat belt in my 3600. right now there is nothing, and, though I don't drive crazy, I feel kind of exposed with 'nothing'.

Not hard.
Mock them up with you in the driver seat so you can locate where you want them. Drill the holes and attach the nut plate to a yard stick so you can start a bolt into it through the hole. Tighten it and put rivets or screws into to it to hold the nut plate in place and remove the bolt. Or plug weld it on there like I did and finish the welding imperfections will a small amount of filler.

Installed the same 3pt Juliano's a long time ago and they work great and still look good. Not a single problem. Purchased the same 3pt from Juliano's for my 1940 Ford Tudor build.

That seems like it is mounted very high is that where the instructions said to mount the upper anchor plate?

I didn't pay attention to the instructions here.
I installed the seat and mocked it up as I said. (My seat is stock.)
Tried it with my position (seat all the way back) and with my wife (seat all the way forward). It worked the best in that location.
It takes a second person to do this mockup so you can hand hold the upper strap pulley in place and get it marked.

Re: which 3 point seat belt did you use?

I also ordered mine from Juliano's before they started seatbelt.com. I got the retractable which for the most part I like, except you do have to learn to pull them out very slow and steadily or they will lock on you. The guys at the interior shop who just did the interior on my truck said that all aftermarket seat belts they've seen are like this. The only mistake I made is that I have a Glide Engineering bench seat and the bottom lifts up for storage under the seat and you have to hold the seatbelt up when you put the seat bottom back in place. I might swap out that side of the two outer seat belts (lap belt in the middle) for ones with the stiffener piece to keep them in place when you tilt up the seat bottom. Or maybe I'll try to come up with something to install to make my own stiffener. :-)

Unfortunately I thought of that after I posted my response. I'm suprised it took someone that long to hit that hanging curve ball I floated out there. :-)
