67 Power steering install

I've seen people talk about the dimple needed on the 67 and older frames too add power steering. Is there anyway around this with out adding washers? Did 67 ever come with power steering? Push /Pull ? Please explain how any of you overcame this as my frame is powder coated already......

67's had power steering, but it was a hydraulic cylinder type like an older Corvette or '64- back Impala. Used a manual type box.

The '68 trucks went to the 'integral' power steering box, and those require a clearance dimple in the frame. Some late '67 trucks supposedly have the dimple, but my '67 did not. I think there are spacer kits available to mount an integral box on a '67, I believe it's the same kit used on '63-'66 trucks.

Dimple the frame, and trim the radiator support bracket is what I did. Some frames are totally flat, no dimple and the mounting holes aren't bumped out. So you may need to use washers or a spacer anyways. Any pics of your frame?

Even if you use spacers you may still need to cut your radiator mount to clear the steering box.

I tried putting a P/S unit from a '69 truck on my '67 Chevy K/10 Suburban w/454. The frame was not dimpled, I used nuts as 1/2'' spacers. The problem was that the '67 K/10 [4WD] had a manual steering sector that ran fore-and-aft, rather than left-and-right, like on later model trucks.
The original draglink was shortened to fit the new configuration, but I had several issues.
One, the P/S box was too strong and kept tearing out of the frame mounts and shearing grade 8 bolts.
Two, the steering geometry was bad. I didn't get full sweep anymore. It had more right than left. And to turn left for a U Turn, I had to illegally start from the middle lane and pull around, coming into the curb lane [not the slow lane] as it pulled around. [The Sub has a 127'' wheel base.]

I decided to patch up the old manual steering box with JB Weld and go back to the Armstrong System, but here, I'd shot myself in the foot by cutting on the original one-piece draglink. Steering geometry was still bad, but not as bad as before. So don't burn your bridges behind you. Save as much of the original set up as you can so you can restore it when the power steering experiment fails.

Best solution for a 4WD would be to swap on a '69 or later, open-knuckle Dana 44 axle which is set up for Power Steering and front disc brakes. An unrelated engine fire downed the Sub, so I never pursued the project further, and it's been sitting ever since.

Just read yesterday about a guy who makes a bracket for that. Go to the top of the page and do a search for 67 PS frame bracket, you should be able to find it. If I remember it was like 10 bucks or so. Good luck

I am converting my 67 to power steering right now. My frame is flat with raised bolt holes. I almost bought the bracket kit but ended up heating the frame with a hand held propane torch and gave it a few whacks with a three pound hammer. It did not take much of an indentation so that the steering box would sit flat. I also notched a small corner of the body mount and bumper bracket with a 4.5" cut off wheel to clear the steering box.

I went through this, no need to dimple or spacers with the CP50014 box. They have the whole conversion kit if you need one. I had to order a ps pump mount from ebay cause i have a 292. Feel free to PM if you have any questions
